How to answer all the naysayers?

Some really great responses in this thread I may have to borrow! I usually chicken out with a "semi-retired" or "consulting" response - I think I'll start being a bit more cheeky!

where to park cash - saving for 2nd home

DW and I are looking to purchase a 2nd home on the Gulf that will hopefully be the primary within a few years. The plan would be to snowbird for a few years, then sell the Midwest house and move to the Gulf full time. I need some advice on making it happen. Here's some big picture facts...

    NFL: 2021 Season

Go Pack Go! Not sure about the man-bun / surfer dude look, but still the same #12! Love the atmosphere of Lambeau.

sitting at home on a rainy afternoon thinking to myself that tomorrow is Monday and WOW I don't have the Sunday afternoon blues (not just because my Packers are dominating)!!!! This is AWESOME! I'm blessed way more than I deserve. I'm really digging FIRE!

Dropped the lawnmower at the repair shop first thing, put teak oil on all the outside furniture getting it ready to put away for winter, ran to the hardware store to get more teak oil, finished the edge of a mosaic table the wife is working on, washed and detailed 4 vehicles (wife's, mine, and 2...

Thanks Luvtoride! Unfortunately, the RE date is a little out of my control - since my resignation, I've been placed on the board of directors until they decide to repurchase my company stock. Just waiting for an offer / "gravy on the biscuit".

What did you do today? - 2021 version

Went roller-skating in the middle of the day with the family. We homeschool and have a senior and a sophomore. I really cherish these things we can do together before the oldest flies the coop for college and changes the dynamic at home. Bittersweet to say the least.

Had to get up early this morning to check the accounts. We hit 2M in our "Bridge" account and 3M overall in invested assets (not including house). 3M was our goal set back in early 2000's as the SWAG amount we needed to "FIRE". Hasn't sunk in but I think we're finally here, financially...

SCUBA is new for us. Feels good to be learning something new! DW, DS, and I will be testing for our advanced open water cert by the end of the month.

What did you do today? - 2021 version

Had lunch with one of my college professors (from 25+ years ago) who is now working in the private sector. Listened to him rant about job and personal finance issues the entire lunch - a bit exhausting. I feel bad for the guy, but he does have quite a nice collection of classic cars. Almost...

    Keep it equitable between kids?

Thanks all so much for the input. I'll need to sleep on it a few more times I suppose. The other wrinkle and perhaps why this is bugging me in my gut is the older (not in scuba) has been the chronic "scorekeeper" since childhood. The younger not at all. Although the older is maturing and...

    Keep it equitable between kids?

$2k is about what I'm estimating per person. Preachy was probably the wrong word choice - when the "dad" voice has to come out :) It rarely happens as they're both great kids (take after Momma) 529's / scholarships should have college covered.

    Keep it equitable between kids?

In need of advice - DW, youngest child (15), and I started a new hobby, SCUBA, and we're loving it so far. Oldest child (17) has no interest at all in learning SCUBA. I'm quickly learning just how pricey this new activity can be. In our house, I preach FIE (Fair Isn't Equal). However, this...

Paid My House Off - No One Else to Tell

Congrats MarkY3130!! You beat us by 1 year (we were 38 when completely debt free). We struggled too with "celebration level" deciding to keep it pretty low key. Now the fun begins :coolsmiley: Celebrate a bit, then take that awesome cash flow you now have and REALLY build that nest egg!!

    Net worth Today

Same here DrRoy, we became 100% debt free 12/10/2013. It's amazing how that allowed us to live WAY under our means - and how quickly the NW increased!

    I think I'm FIRE'd but not sure

Thanks for the responses all. Markola your "Internet Retirement Police" comment made me chuckle! I guess the reason I asked the question was I really don't feel the FREEDOM (shouting from the mountain tops) feeling I was expecting - I'm sure its because of the lingering ties to the company...

    I think I'm FIRE'd but not sure

Hi all! My first post! I finally signed up after lurking for a lot of years! My question is - Can you consider yourself FIRE'd if you are still a shareholder and on the board of your company - or do you have to be "gainfully unemployed"? I resigned my post as President / CFO in 2019 and...
