Give me a museum and I'll fill it. (Picasso) Give me a forum ...
As I age I find that not injuring myself is rule #1 when it comes to exercise. One good injury that might have taken 3-7 days to heal when I was in my 40's can now take over a month. Needless to say that puts a huge damper on keeping in shape.
I do a lot of loosening up type of exercises to keep me mobile. I've never been very flexible/limber. Even as a teenager touching my toes was hard. I want to keep as much as I can. I also use resistance bands three times a week to add some strength. I was walking a lot but for the last two weeks, ice and snow have made that rather hazardous. One good fall and I'm out of action for weeks, maybe a month or more. See above paragraph.
Today, I will head to the local Buy More Super Store and walk the perimeter several times. I wonder if they know they have provided me with an indoor track? Before that I will do about 30 minutes of stretching and strength exercises.
I have a minimum daily routine I try to do six days a week: pushups, plank, leg stretches, back stretches, ankle range of motion, and a special hip stretch a physical therapist gave me to keep my hips aligned. It takes about 20 minutes and if I have a very busy day planned, or I'm traveling, or otherwise pressed for time I just do that.
Overall, I am a pansy compared to all of your who pump iron 5 days a week, then run or fast walk 3- 5 miles a day. And I think I am a lot better than many of my peers who can't walk the local hills without stopping for air every 5 minutes.
