A nice article by Christine Benz of Morningstar on the uncertainty in financial planning - especially long term retirement planning. I usually like her writing.

What's Your Uncertainty/Humility Score?

The points made here are worth learning if you're new to this and worth reiterating to yourself if you're experienced.

Glad you started this thread; I was about to do the same.

I almost always like Christine Benz’s articles; they are insightful & practical. Key points to me from this article were:

- Known Unknowns: It’s a long list! (I think the categorization into “Secular” & “Personal” buckets is useful.)

- Focus on the Known Knowns

- Be flexible.

From the article, "Not only is the return on anything that's not FDIC-insured not guaranteed,"

I find it interesting that advisers like Zvi Bodie pretty much recommend mostly TIPS and I-bonds, and then this panel doesn't acknowledge their existence as investment options, yet they are U.S. government backed and inflation adjusted.
