I Changed My Browser on Computer

On my macs I use Safari exclusively. Except for that occasional site that just won't work with Safari then I use Epic.

My Mac OS is so old (10.13) that with some sites I now have to use Edge instead of Safari.

I've been quite pleased with my switch over to Brave as my browser.

Not only does it perform better (no more choking and stalling for an unknow reason) than Firefox on my computer, but also now I have Brave's private browsing with Tor built right into the browser for times when I may not want my IP address out in the open.

I have Chrome (Google) but I use Duck Duck Go in the extension that helps with some privacy. Now I do feel I get a better search result from Google but I only use it if I feel DDG doesn't deliver.

I've been Brave since it first became available and further partnered it with DuckDuckGo Essentials when that became available. I have been quite happy with the results along with the privacy.

I use Firefox with these 2 extensions : HTTPS Everywhere and UBlock Orgin. For online banking and checking our Vanguard and Fidelity and other accounts we use Avast Secure browser with bank mode enabled. We have Opera as a back up browser to use. rarely use it. On a laptop we seldom use we have Firefox and Brave browser. Of course Edge is built into win 10 by default, but have not used it much, wife and i just find Firefox to be our go to browser 99% of the time.

Been using Firefox for years and good with it.
Except could not get to my 76 card account until I tried Edge the other day.

Maybe I just need to toss my cookies.

I used Firefox for many years but I had to switch to Chrome. I like Brave but my antivirus software does not highlight links as safe or unknown. I contacted the AV company and they told me it does not work on Brave so I won't use Brave. When I do speed tests on FF, Chrome and Brave, FF is literally 1/3 to 1/2 the speed of the other 2 and those 2 are virtually the same speed as each other. Never used Edge.

I noticed that the latest Brave update prompted me to turn on memory saving for idle tabs. https://brave.com/latest/

It feels like FireFox and Brave are in competition with each other, extending features like VPN, privacy, and others.

That reminds me, the latest Brave update also offered this feature:

Brave Firewall + VPN Brave VPN encrypts and protects anything you do online, even outside the Brave browser. On every app. On your entire device.

Most days I have Opera, Chrome, Firefox and Brave open. As I grow older, though, I find Chrome less engaging.

Are you doing that on purpose? Engagement with a browser. Who knew?

Six browsers on my Mac, and their recent speed tests are, from fastest to slowest:

  • Brave
  • Safari
  • Firefox
  • Edge
  • Opera
  • Chrome

The first four are within a small fraction of a percent of each other, but even the slowest, Chrome, is only about 5% slower than the fastest.
