Has anyone read the book or seen the movie? What was your review if you have.

I plan on getting the book to read.

Oh yes I saw the movie and read the book. It makes you realize how the indians and there land were taking advantage of for the sake of the mighty dollar.

Definitely one of Scorsese’s best productions, and right up there with Goodfellas, Casino, Raging Bull, and Taxi Driver.

Leonardo Dicaprio and Lily Gladstone put on a great performance, but De Niro had a really impactful presence and deserves an oscar.

I have heard it was a great read so I will buy it. Thanks for your review.

FWIW: Even if you buy your books elsewhere, Amazon typically has readers providing reviews that are fairly reliable. I use it all the time and then borrow (online) from the library.

Did not read the book but one of my sisters did...

She said that it was supposed to be showing the start of the FBI, but the movie had very little of that and only at the end...

I think it was long and did not get all the stuff in and tried to hurry it up at times... might have been better as a mini-series... or a two movie event like Dune...

The movie was quite long, but did enjoy it overall.

You got that right, like 3 hours 20 minutes. We broke it up on two nights. We really enjoyed it, great acting all around.

I liked the book a lot. I enjoyed the movie but kept thinking I had liked the book more.
Unfortunately, I didn't retain enough details to know what was better about the book.

I am interested but DW does not want to watch the sad story. Two other very fine books on Native Americans are Lakota America and Commanche Empire by Pekka Hamalainen.

We just saw the move, have not read the book. The movie was excellent...5-stars out of 5. Good writing, direction, acting. Like any Hollywood offering, events had to be merged, characters invented, time lines compressed. This movie is no different the overall story is intact. This movie is well a look and your time.

Our only negative ....and it's a very, very minor negative..is the length of the movie. It runs nearly 3.5 hours but the movie is not slow or plodding. Quite the contrary...it kept our attention throughout. Had we gone to a theatre to see the film we would have missed significant portions of the film going to get a snack or to the restroom. At home we had the luxury of pausing the movie as needed and the resuming it, not missing anything.

This 'negative' applies to any movie of that length. Many current movies seem to be 3+ hours or more. That is among the reasons...maybe the top reason...why we rarely venture out to theatres to see films. Theatre cleanliness, crowd rowdiness and prices of tickets and snacks are other reasons.

Yes, there are great books also. I have the Commanche Empire in hard covah.

I attended a book festival several years ago and the author was one of the speakers. He was very interesting. I had the book on my kindle for several years because I did not want to read such a sad unjust story, but I finally read it last year.

I enjoyed the book, but felt too much of its emphasis was on the FBI side of the story.
I have not seen the movie, but understand it focuses more on the people involved and less on the FBI. I think I would like the movie better and plan to watch it sometime

I watched the movie and thought the performances were great but the story dragged. Too long at 3 hr and 20 minutes.

This year's Oscar nominees seem to be following the same pattern: of the BP nominees I have seen KFM, Oppenheimer, American Fiction, Maestro, Barbie, Anatomy of a Fall. and Holdovers. All have compelling and masterful performances, but the stories left me meh. IMHO seems like this is an actor's year.

I thought the 3 hours and 20 minutes were necessary to tell the full story. Did not feel it dragged. We watched from home so we could pause it.
