Late credit card payment

Have had Discover since 1985... one late payment in 34 years, but still subject to $39 late payment fee. Don't expect a problem but called to find out and as a test asked if they could increase my limit to $25K to buy a car. Yes... didn't even ask for $$$ ability to pay.... which they are entitiled to do.

I had the issue w/ Amex a couple of times and their interest rate is quite confusing...they call it "trailing interest." I won't try and explain it because I still don't understand it. However, both times I called and had the interest/late fee reversed with no issue.

I also pay my cards manually (usually the day prior to statement closing) but still have autopay set in case I miss it for whatever reason.

Regarding the auto pay , a thing I learned here on the site was to put my re-occurring bills on a CC that I auto pay.
That way I don't have to figure out those things if we plan a long trip, or a trip gets extended.
