Need help with an old car, that died/

Glad it all worked out, but I'm wondering why you would call the cops about how to dispose of an old car.

Because we were trying to do this in a different country (Canada) and had a million things on our minds (including disposing of the contents of a house plus a huge 2-story garage/barn (about three times larger than the house) that was chock-full of machine tools, all sorts of large metal objects (huge chains, gears, motors, you name it)). We simply called the police non-emergency number to ask for their suggestions as to how to dispose of a car, as we figured they might know a thing or two about vehicles. ;)

On an earlier visit, we had hastily trimmed some "new growth/wild" branches of a few bushes and trees on the property and put them out front for trash pick-up. Concerned neighbors came over and explained the trash and composting system in their village to us. I can't recall the details, but it was something like household trash and compost is only picked up every 2 weeks and all of it is closely monitored as to quantity (only 1 or 2 bags allowed?), etc. with fines levied for infractions. :nonono:

In fact, as we were not going to be around for the next pick-up, a kind neighbor offered us the proper disposal bags (for which we gladly compensated her) and said she'd put them out on the appropriate day for pickup.

Until you are confronted by such a situation, it can be a surprise to learn how different locations handle things.
