Give me a museum and I'll fill it. (Picasso) Give me a forum ...
As I had mentioned in another thread, I suddenly found myself GF-less several months ago. Won't go into that much, but part of my recovery/therapy was to pursue some travel to scenic, cooler locales to escape the Texas heat. Just so happened that AA offered a cheap flight to Portland, OR in July ($340 RT), so I booked, and over the Labor Day weekend, off I went.
Day 1 was spent doing the old Columbia River highway, plus the loop out and around Mt. Hood and back to Portland. Did some hiking, and lot of photography, and fair amount of driving, and was back to the hotel before dark, since I hate driving at night, especially on unfamiliar roads.
Day 2 comprised a trip to the coast, through Tillamook State Forest, up the PCH to Astoria, then back to Portland on the west side of Hwy 30. Turns out I'd have skipped the trip to Astoria, had a leisurely lunch in Seaside, then headed back to Portland on Hwy 26 if I'd have known that the Columbia is hardly visible from the highway on that leg.
Day 3 was mostly spent in Washington and Forest Parks, hiking the trails.
All-in-all, nice trip. Hadn't really been to the NW, so good first pass.
