Re-introduction and update

Hi, I introduced myself about 15 months ago, have learned a lot more on this subject since thanks to this site. Hopefully the link below leads to the original thread.

I will FIRE June 1st. Financial situation is about the same as 15 months ago. The 200k expense figure applies only to the first 10 years then drops (Bernicke style), so not overly concerned about the relatively high initial SWR. Another way to look at it would be that mentally I've set aside a few hundred K in a separate account to sponsor the more expensive initial phase of ER.

Mentally I feel a mess, bouncing between anxiety, worry and excitement. I suppose that is a normal part of the transition.

But mostly excited, I have to keep reminding myself that!

Welcome back. The good thing is that once you make the leap, the anxiety about making the leap goes away! Then, the really fun part starts...and goes on...and on...

Congrats! Just looked back over that old thread; sounds like you are retiring pretty young (well, at least with respect to kids), but are in good shape, especially with ability to cut discretionary spending if needed. Enjoy the trip from here!

It is normal. Post back after your final date and let us know how you feel. Took me about 15 minutes to get over any anxiety I had! I felt the stress and worry disappearing as I walked out the office door for the last time. I hope the same for you. Enjoy your retirement!

Did have my exit interview 2 days ago, so supposedly a free spirit now no?

Working through health insurance and potential contract engagements (not planned) have me at least as stressed.

Although there is a sniff of freedom right now - nope, not on the clock.

Moving on to the next stage.

My brother early retired at 58 and he swears the euphoria never ebbs! I ask him constantly if it ever wears off and he repeatedly tells me no! I am on the verge at 54. I can taste the freedom now! It's a good feeling!

I'm a Junior this year and expect to be part of the class of 2018 (ER.) What I did a few months ago is make a list of the pros and cons of ER and revisit that list quite often. Underneath my heading Cons - is an area where I can describe how I will deal with the "cons." My two main concerns are:

a. Not having enough (which I realize that I will never have - even though I have never spent a whole lot,) and

b. The fears associated with change. I realize that I do not handle "change" well and I am thankful that I have a strong support system to walk me through this transition period.

BTW - its ironic that I listed "change" as one of my trepidations - as this is an area I struggle with in the w*ork world.

Simply, identify the source of your concerns and implement a plan to make your transition smooth.

Congrats on the retirement! Hope the issues get resolved quickly. For stress...remember to breathe--Best thing I learned from yoga years ago
