Seriously annoyed with Quicken!

2011 seems very buggy.
We've been using Acronis at work since 2005 and looks like the product is going downhill.
From time to time our IT or lab support will try a new version, but 2011 got very bad marks here.

Here's something about backups: Although you definitely want to do a full system back up now and then, most of the need for a backup comes from accidentally deleting files.

So, every two weeks I run this batch file:

"c:\program files\7-zip\7z" a -r c:\backup\Photos.zip -tzip c:\photos\*
"c:\program files\7-zip\7z" a -r c:\backup\Docs.zip -tzip "C:\Documents and Settings\Al\My Documents\*
pause

And on the alternate weeks, I copy My Documents and c:\photos to a DVD.

This has saved me many times.

For full backups I use Macrium Reflect and a Passport USB drive.

I move to excel years ago

I copied a budget sheet from Fidelity and modified it. It is much easier to use and we use it. Simpile systems are the best. My favorite budget method has been a notepad with a small pencil in the wire binding, I used one page per month for discretionary items, and simply erased the budget number, subtracting my spend, as I go.
