Tell me where to stay mid-Oct to mid-Nov?

Yes - I'm looking at New Orleans for sure. Could really use some specifics.
We stayed in Gretna at the Holiday Inn years ago. It is a few towns over from New Orleans. It is a uber ride away from NO. We would do it again. When walking in the French Quarter, don't stray away too far from the FQ for your safety.

I am familiar with the area. Can you recommend a specific location/rental/condo/house?

You might want to go online and search for condo management companies in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach.

My wife and I are not beach people and our vacations are spent in Europe or at our RV in the North GA mountains.

Napa is gorgeous that time of year. And lots of nice day trips to the coast, SF, etc…

Pretty certain you can't do Napa on the OPs budget

Probably depends on the type of place you want to stay, but I also haven’t checked rates lately. I’ve heard they have skyrocketed.

Still, there are areas just north of Napa that give you the fun day trips too and have to be cheaper I would think. In general, that time of year is gorgeous in CA.

I love Naples Florida. Treviso Bay has condos for rent on airbnb. Great golf course, plenty of tennis. Nice restaurants, pool, bocce, walking trails. Get a condo close to the bar-b-cue /pool area.
+ve: close to stores in south Naples. Close to Marco Is.
-ve: 20 min from downtown Naples, 25 min from Naples beaches.

My brother owns a 1 bedroom condo in New Orleans he usually rents long term. He just came back a few weeks ago so I believe it is still empty. I haven’t been but it is supposedly near the parade route if not on it. Not sure if he does short term rentals.

Are you looking for a hotel a condo, do you want a kitchen?

I need to go somewhere in USA for a month or a little more, preferably warm or warm-ish. Can anyone recommend a specific place? Not just a general area, but a specific place (hotel, house, condo, whatever) that you liked?

Priority: Warm(ish), Food, Relaxing.

Grand Caymans!!
Beach, food, and weather is great.
St Thomas (US territory)
Be careful about hurricanes (being that is around that season)

New Zealand
Australia
Italy
Iceland
Egypt
South Africa
Brazil (falls de agazu... sp?)
Canada (it's been hot there)
Japan
Your neighbor's house

Road trip... with flights!!

Just saw it's a USA ask so... St Thomas!!

I do an annual trip to Sonoma each October. It’s still very warm, and Sonoma is less pretentious and more affordable than Napa. I stay at the Auburge Sonoma which has three suites, all are fantastic. It’s walking distance to town square, yet in a tranquil location. All units have kitchens.

Ah good point. When I said Napa, I didn’t actually mean Napa proper, but the general area. I prefer healdsburg or Sonoma area as well. Auberge is wonderful! It’s such a beautiful area with so many diverse day trips to explore.

Biloxi MS or North Myrtle Beach

Right on the Gulf; looked to us like an ocean without the waves the first time we visited. Plenty of hotels right on the water or across the street. There are even casinos that are nice like the Beau Rivage. We have stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn and others like it for more moderate rates. One caution - the Gulf has had in the past problems with bedbugs, at even the most expensive places. Not sure if they still do since it has been a few years since we went there, but regardless take a flashlight and check all around the beds, etc. Again, not specific to Biloxi just the whole Gulf area in general, and all the states affected.

Or check out the North Myrtle Beach area, very quiet after the summer rush, and much better than Myrtle Beach. Tons of condos for rent; just look them up on the Net and specify if you want oceanfront, oceanview, etc.

Red Mountain Resort in Ivins Utah. You can get a package that includes 3 daily meals, hikes, and fitness classes. There is a spa on site. Day trips to Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, walking distance to Snow Canyon State Park.

I’m currently an employee there, but will be retired by the time you visit.

Best regards,
Chris

This would be great but not doable on the OP's budget. There would be plenty of condos rentals in his price range. The OP saying they don't want to mess around looking on VRBO puts a lot of places on the no go list.

I don't think anyone other than the OP should be doing the filtering.

I think the OP wanted specific suggestions for places Forum members have stayed and recommended. I think the OP has gotten several of these specific suggestions which should be very helpful to the OP. I personally would take recommendations from Forum members over random reviews on VRBO/AirBnB. Sometimes the VRBO/AirBnB reviews are totally off base, maybe even fake.

I feel like to have to do both. Since we don't personally know posters, no way of knowing if we have the same taste. Also someone could be talking about somewhere they stayed 10 years ago.

For a weekend I might roll with it, but for a month I'd be a little more picky.
To the best of my knowledge you have to stay at a place to post a review on VRBO. However owners can block bad reviews. The good ones are probably fine if there are a large number of them.

Yes, this was my point. And I do appreciate the suggestions.

I stayed in an Air BnB one time that had many excellent reviews and when I got there the place was a dump and I left and asked for my money back. I finally got the money back after sending pictures. How did that house get excellent Air BnB reviews? I never figured that out, a mystery.

I dunno maybe as VRBO and Air BnB (who are now one and the same) have grown they aren't are diligent about keeping track of things? Or someone hacked the review system.

When I rented from VRBO I got a unique email link that said please post a review and then sent me directly to a review page for the the unit I had rented.

Now I've seen units where the owners have added reviews because most places do have guestbooks. These reviews always used to say "review added by owner" to separate them from the direct link reviews.

Maybe they have changed that system which would be a real shame.
