Heh -- I had already applied the factor, but I factored the estimated 6 months to 18.
And we didn't exactly go from a stink pot to a blow boat -- we had an RV in the middle. So our progression seems pretty random.
Yep -- the 29 was a Herreshoff design. I have had a couple of friends with Bristols, and they both were very happy with them. Both were liveaboards, one a cruiser with a 29-9, the other mostly at a marina, with a 35. We buddy-boated with the 29-9 for almost a year from the Chesapeake to St Petersburg and back, and got to know that boat fairly well during that time. The owner of the 35 was the guy who bought Dory from us, and he lives on her now.
We'll do the initial work in the Chesapeake somewhere. Once that is done, we are still talking about what to do, but the idea at this point is to bring it (by water) to some place on the Texas coast, such as Kemah or Galveston. The alternate idea is to use it for a few months on the east coast, then truck it to a large lake near where we are. Part of the decision will depend on yet-to-be-done research on what the cruising is like -- anchorages, etc.
Once it gets to Texas, whether on the coast or at a lake, we'd spend a few days aboard several times a month, with the occasional week or two aboard, weather permitting.
The refit work will be about like it was with Dory. I'll do a good bit myself, and a guy who does such stuff for a living (the guy who bought Dory) will do pretty much all the paint and most of the joinery (boat woodwork and cabinetmaking, in non-sailorese) to finish paying off what he owes me on Dory.
