Miami Invaded By Giant, House-Eating Snails : NPR

That's the Giant African Land Snail, to be precise. They can grow to be 10 inches long. They leave a slimy trail of excrement wherever they go. They harbor the microscopic rat-lung worm, which can transmit meningitis to humans. And they will literally eat your house.
"They'll attach to the side of the house and eat the stucco off the side of the house," Gaskalla says. The snails are also attracted to garbage and pet food that's been left out.

Actors playing zombies hurt in movie set mishap - CBS News

(AP) TORONTO -- Sixteen actors dressed as zombies were injured Tuesday when they fell from a platform during filming of a new movie in the "Resident Evil" series, officials said, and rescue workers at first were startled at the seemingly catastrophic scene.

"I could see the look on the first paramedic, saying 'Oh my God,"' Toronto emergency medical services Commander David Ralph said with a laugh.

Officials said none of the injuries were considered life-threatening, but that was far from apparent when rescue workers first arrived at what appeared to be a horrific scene. The victims' gory zombie costumes made it difficult for crews to assess the severity of the actors' injuries, said Peter Macintyre, Toronto emergency medical services spokesman.

Lost in maize: Man calls 911 after Danvers corn maze caper

Hidden danger everywhere...

Danvers —
An evening stroll through a corn maze at Danvers’ Connors Farm took a confusing turn Monday, Oct. 10, for a family that became disoriented in the rows of corn and called 911 to ask for help.
A father and mother with two children used their cell phone to call Danvers Police at 6:32 p.m. reporting that they were lost in the corn maze. Danvers Officer Justin Ellenton responded to the call and entered the corn maze with Connor’s Farm manager Ritchie Potter to search for the family.
Within nine minutes of entering the maze, Officer Ellenton and Potter found the family. The family had almost found their way out, unbeknownst to them, they were only 25 feet from the street. Police were not releasing the name of the family as of press time.
