What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

Got a vaccination and donated two bags of clothing and an old computer (minus hard drive) to charity.

Very productive morning for me...snagged the timeshare for our vacay in April, made flight ressies, spent an hour+ on the phone as our solar battery stopped working on Friday, took a walk.

Now munching on some fruit then install the replacement printers for the color laser that died yesterday in the middle of copying tax stuff for the tax man . Have had the worst luck with color lasers as they last 1-2 years only . And they are so heavy getting them up and down to the 2nd floor. Decided to purchase a b&w laser and a color inkjet and see how that combo works. The color inkjet we had prior to the lasers was a workhorse and lasted for years and years.

Top step of the podium at this weekends bike race.

Gravel road race season is coming up fast. Need to BTD on an updated gravel race bike. My old race rig survived two seasons and endless workouts. Time for a replacement.

Congrats! Lots of training I'm sure.

I really like my Salsa Warbird, but don't get out on it enough as we no longer live in a very bike friendly area -- i.e. too many hills and narrow roads to ride safely.

Good luck in the upcoming season.

Signed up for dog obedience training refresher with our pup. He is hitting the 7 month "adolescent" stubbornness period and my skills from our last puppy 20+ years ago need updating.
Most of our dogs have been adult rescues who come already well trained from our Humane Society. It has been a long time since we have had a puppy!

Stubborn or not, he is still a cutie.

A morning home day to take care of some business and do a few things around the yard.

I walked up town to mail a letter with a check in it for a ticket to attend a buffalo feed in a small rural town. I talked to a friend last night if he would buy a ticket for a gentleman, I know that couldn't afford to buy one for himself, so he can attend that feed.

I also stopped by a Foundation I been part of almost from the first day it was created. They were surprised to see me and told me that they were just about to call me and tell they want to highlight 3 people that have given every year for 40 years to the Foundation charity. I was one of the three and very proud to be part of that foundation.

I also run a thought by them with a project I wanted to take on myself for years and never have got it jump started.

Here is what I had in mind. A 5$ voucher for credit at the hospital cafeteria to anyone, no restrictions just need the name, phone number and address for the voucher. I would fund the benefit for the people that come to hospital for any reason. This rural hospital has a large range of people that come here for health care.

There was only one gal in the office, but she was very excited about the program. There would be some logistics to detail out, but I really think it would be a welcoming gesture for anyone to take advantage of and a plus for the foundation.

Going to eat lunch and head to the back country for an afternoon hike and adventure.

Went for hikes in 3 state parks. Found some waterfalls and bison. Picked up a $42 ribeye at the meat market on the way home. It better be good.

Took a 160 mile motorcycle ride at the southern edge of the Smokey Mountains. Three states, two national forests, and lots of very fun twisty roads ;-).

.

What a great idea! Good exposure for the hospital, and a very nice gesture to those who are probably feeling a little down about being in a hospital - for whatever reason.

Yes, that is what I think too. I can't see any negative side to the charity voucher. The people that run the cafeteria would help them and Foundation would have some names so they can spread their mission to others that might not know what they do for every age of people in health care. A 100$ would help 20 people and is something that can help a person right away no questions ask.

I would hope it would put a smile on some faces getting a discount on a meal when things might not be so happy with a loved one in the hospital dying.

The Futon we ordered came yesterday so put that together in will be placed in the den. The cushions for it are in Spokane now and been around the world and at one time or another with tracking. At one time the cushions were about 2 hours away from our home.

Interesting. I can't remember what I ordered during covid days. The item went to 8 different states before I got the package. It was fun to watch it every day where it was at. Crazy!!!!

Played golf with my friends today.

It was 80 F and a bit windy. First time out this year and we had a great time. Four guys mid 70's to 80 and we played pretty well. I guess we are among the lucky ones to be able to play competitively at these ages.:) Not using the back tees anymore though.

Hmmm southern Smokey Mts. Possibly NC, Tn. N.Ga. Cherohala , The Dragon, Foothills Pkwy. and Blue Ridge Pkwy? What ever you rode in that area you can't really go wrong on a 2 wheel steed! Sounds like a great day!:greetings10:

I had a temporary crown put in today* - will return in three weeks for the permanent crown.

After all the numbing and drilling and other associated fun, I stopped by Harris Teeter to pick up two Rx for my sore tooth. One was prescribed by Dr. Haagen Dazs, and one by Dr. Mac and Cheese. Nothing but soft food for this old gal tonight!

Happy Valentine's day to me. :D

*A word to the (un)wise - if you put Hershey's kisses in the fridge (as I do) and then bite down on one as soon as you take it out of the fridge, it can snap a tooth, and that piece of candy could end up costing you $1,398.00. Lesson learned.:facepalm:
I like your choice of doctors and agree they can be very helpful. As to the crown, a pricey and unfortunate lesson. Hopefully that’s the end of it.

Fortunately with Medicare I can see any doctor I need to, and don't need pre-approval to see specialists such as Dr. Haagen-Dazs and Dr. Mac and Cheese. :D :D

It's really a shame Dr. Hershey did not suggest you get a second opinion from Dr. H-D and Dr. M&C before proceeding with the Kisses treatment!

Yesterday I finished preparing our taxes. I’m not going to file until 4/15, as we have a large balance due and I’d rather keep internet it earns.

This morning I dropped off the car at the mechanic. We drove over during early morning rush hour. The traffic was crazy and the drivers seriously stressed and driving very aggressively. I was reminded once again how pleasant it is to be retired and not have to deal with that anymore.

Finished gathering up and organizing Moms investment and financial information for tax preparation. Feels good to hand over the organized binder of Moms annual documents to my accountant.

Watching the mail for one more financial statement before I can do the same.

Day at camp. Whopping 64F. Did some drainage clearing, cut fallen timber. Then snoozed in shorts only in the warm sunshine.

For the first time in my life, I thought that maybe chocolate wasn't worth it.

But then I came to (what's left of) my senses! :D :D

Went to ranch and got a few things done and had lunch at the cabin. I am 24 hours from today till tomorrow we will have a 70-degree difference in temperature. Tomorrow I will stay home and work on a few projects. I will need to bake a loaf of bread in the morning since I got one ready this morning.

I was going to help load calves out tomorrow, but I won't be going to help.

Caulked small leak on 1 window and took off some moss growing there. Replaced a hose bib and deleted the second hose bib on the same pipe a few inches away. Both of them were leaking.

Hired a handyman to do some work that is too much for me. He delivered $591 worth of materials says the Home Doh receipt, and will be back tomorrow to start on it, unless it rains. He found us a $100 exterior door. Good price. Got siding and stuff to build steps out back. Prefers to charge by the hour and is very reasonable. So far so good.

a fountain that I had helped move got blown down in the heavy winds and it was a total loss. I tracked over to the location with the mini excavator and grasped up all the pieces and put it in the dumpster.
I also ran the numbers with the upcoming start of the pension, and if I work 50 hours the rest of this year, our medical coverage will run out the following June. That was much better than I expected. My wife will probably make the move to retirement in that timeframe.
