The quick answer is 65. But I want more accuracy. The SSA website says "If you enroll one to three months before you reach age 65 then your Part B Medicare coverage starts the month you reach age 65." I read that to be the first of the month in which I turn 65, not "when I turn 65".
The reason I am splitting hairs is that I had a similar situation with SSA. I filed the earliest possible date (maybe 3 months before birthday). This is for age 62 start. Let's say birthday was April 15. First check will arrive 3rd Wednesday of June. See the two month difference? It translates to over $3,000.
Why do I care when it starts? Just doing some ACA planning. If i need to keep ACA for an extra month or two, no problem. I am calling Medicare and am 6 minutes into the call, waiting for the next available representative. Just thought I would ask this group.
