Does anyone know how early one can contribute to next year's IRA? I assume that it usually is not until the IRS publishes the contribution limits. And even after those are published, I would imagine the major brokerages aren't allowed to permit contributions before a certain date.
I have $5,500 +/- sitting in cash in an Am Ex High Yield Savings account (85 bps/APY) waiting to invest for my 2014 Roth IRA contribution.
If the start date for contributions isn't until Jan 1, 2014 - are there any bond funds that you recommend putting that money in the short term? I am earning minimal interest on it (85 bps). Just curious if you are aware of less risky bond funds that could generate a couple hundred bucks from this money in the mean time. If I can, might as well, right?
