A better e-reader than a Nook?

The Kindle Fire is a decent couch-based web surfer*, but not such a good reader. I get eye strain rather quickly using it for much reading...

* The damned thing kept knocking my wi-fi off the air. Probably need to replace my ten year old wireless router, but in the meantime, if I only use the Kindle, and all other computers are idle or off, it works fine.

Which reminds me, we need an Android app for er-org.

How does the old Kindle Fire compare with the new Kindle Fire HD ? I would think the HD version would be much better.

Have not seen or tried the HD version, but I have the same problem staring at a computer monitor or iPhone; eyes get fry, fatigued, etc., probably from the reduced blink rate...
