Broken hip and arm

aaron take your time to decide about schooling and settlements. If you want to drill down about the schooling why don't you start another thread about 2 year degrees, vocational office training and jobs.

I'm sure people would be glad to share information with you. For example something like training for medical transcriptions.. a lot of those job are done from home.

That's a good idea but i'll wait until I get closer to that step. Right now I don't even know why my hip is still hurting. If they don't find anything on the MRI they may just send me back to myvery physically demanding job for me to suffer or quit.

Let hope that you have better results then that. I can feel your frustration and I hope you get the best result possible.

Aaron, you will either get a buy out or they will pay you while you get retrained. You do not get both. Also do you know that you qualify for 2 years of retraining? The time period allowed varies by a number of factors.

I will get a disability rating and a payout based on that. I would assume any vocational training would be seperate.

As far as time of training, they are required to help me get a job that pays at least 90% of what I ws making at the time of the accident. I will be unlikey to be able to make that in an office without an associates degree.

Once my employer is informed that I am unable to return to my physical labor job they have 60 days to find me an office type job otherwise WC is required to help me get a job paying at least 90% of what I was making at the time of the accident.

I mostly worked as a vocational expert in public rehab but did some consulting in WC after first retiring 6 years ago. I can't remember for sure if people got a disability rating settlement on top of either a buyout or retraining. While they are required to help you find a job making 90% of what you were making I will tell you what frequently really happens. They send you to a private technical school because often the amount of time you are allowed does not cover public colleges. Then once completed they pair you with a job development specialist that is supposed to help you do your resume and find work, etc. The counselor keeps getting paid and the insurance company wants your case closed and will likely only rehire the counselor in the future if they help them accomplish their goal. Business in WC is very competitive and the counselor does not work for you but for the insurance company. They will end up closing your case and not paying anymore whether or not you have a job paying 90% of your past wage. How are they able to do this? I don't know because I did not like private rehab and didn't stay in it long enough to know.

Thanks for the info. I will likely have to end up getting an attorney at some point to make sure WC isn't taking advantage of me.

Yes that is a very good idea. I am hoping that you are still healing and things will get better.

I got the results back from the MRI and it showed the worst case scenerio. Unfortunately I have wide spread avascular necrosis and need a total hip replacement on May 21st. He is planning an anterior approach which should reduce recovery time to around 3 months. It's going to be a major bummer to go thru a third surgery and a few more months of physical therapy but it should result in finally being pain free or at least less pain than I have had for the past year.

Oh boy! My best wishes for the surgery bringing about the result that everybody hopes for.

wow, Aaron, you have been through the wringer this year! Best wishes for your recovery.

So sorry to hear this, aaron. Hope the surgery and recovery go well and you are free from pain.

Aaron, I'm so sorry, that is awful to have to go through. No wonder you were in so much pain. Hoping so much for a good result from this hip replacement, and to hear from you that the pain is gone and you are in good health.

Sorry your having to go through this. Hopefully it becomes a positive for you.

Thank you for the update Aaron.

Like the others I'm wishing you well. You've been thru so much, bless your heart...hopefully the surgery will give you some relief.

Thanks for keeping us updated Aaron. We're here for you and wish you well. I had a major injury several years ago that required emergency surgery. 7 weeks in a wheelchair, then a walker for months. It took 2 years to recover (not completely recovered - never will, but certainly better now). If you get depressed, let your physician know. You will heal and get through this.

I wish you the best and back to good health.

Wow so sorry to hear about this but at least they found out what's wrong and they are going to fix it. Wishing you the best.

Wishing you a successful surgery and an uneventful and complete recovery.

Please keep us posted with updates so we can continue cheering you on from the sidelines.

I'm sorry to hear you need another surgery, Aaron. I hope it is successful and relieves your pain.

I wonder if you need to get some advice from an attorney now. Just a kind of double-check before the next surgery. This whole accident and lengthy recovery has probably taken quite a toll on you.

And if you know exactly what you should get from your employer, you will be in a better position to understand moving forward with their offerings.

Maybe any attorneys on this site can suggest whether it is a good time to get some legal advise....it sounds like this might be a long term disability...

It seems unlikely an attorney would want to get too involved at this stage. I won't get any payout until a year after this new surgery when I reach maximum medical improvement. I will probably wait to get an attorney until it gets close to that time. I will want to make I sure I know my options for making sure WC pays for my next hip replacement too and all the recovery costs associated with it since this one will only last 20-30 years or so and i'm only 38.

Good luck Aaron. Regarding the anterior replacement, I have had one and overall it's da bomb. You will recover quickly, and there can't be any more actual joint pain because your painful joint is gone. The surrounding muscles can be sore. I guess your recovery may be longer than in the typical one because of your history, but in my case and other guys I have known who got this surgery, by a month or so you can hardly remember which hip was operated.

Ha

You need to concentrate on getting better now and the rest will come...gives you time to look at different work opportunities and any training you might want to ask for. I'm sorry you have to go thru another month of pain before your new hip...
