When the church is more about the messenger rather than the message and they are unwilling to acknowledge and change, it's time to find another church. So many times parishioners become enamored of their clergy, willing to follow anything they say.

As best as I can tell from the original post, and presuming there are no other very important details omitted, OP has such a simple solution. Just leave. That would end the entire thing (again, presuming some important details were not omitted).

I’m going to read between the lines here that the pastor called in the police because the OP viewed videotapes that he was not authorized to access (and came across what he thinks is incriminating evidence of staff member doing something nefarious, which he brought to the pastor’s attention). The OP expects the case against him to be dropped. I bet the pastor will be happy to help the case against the OP go away if the OP himself will go away from that church. OP doesn’t want to leave this church and thinks he will be vindicated when everyone hears about the video of the church staff’s evil deeds and is willing to go to court to expose them.

Why spend any $$ on attorneys either defending yourself or filing against the church? If you can just go away, why not? The church surely has deeper pockets to defend itself than the OP does. After battling with the pastor for three years per the OP, I’d move on. Life is too short.

I thought there might be an accusation of sexual harassment or being a peeping-Tom. The comments about "female staff member", "items stored on the floor" and "re-positioning of the camera" made me wonder if the original setup was invading the staff member's privacy. If the OP was the one who positioned the camera there or if he failed to post the required notices about video surveillance, I'm not sure leaving the church makes it go away.

Of course, it didn’t take long for the religion bashing and church bashing crowd to arrive.

As the old saying goes, if you find the perfect church don’t join it. You’ll ruin it.

Actually, it does not say to keep church problems in-house. That would mean keeping criminal matters as well, which is wrong and not biblical. It is specifically about the topic of SUING another member, because someone feels they have been wronged in a matter.

Let me know when Hercule Poirot calls everyone into the same room for the grand finale.

Well, I think I still did pretty good for a heathen (an unwashed, illiterate one at that) who has only been a biblical scholar for about a day.

If you want to understand what happens when churches keep church problems in house then google the results of the recent State of Penn. inquiry into abuse by clergy and subsequent cover ups.

So far I believe is two Cardinals and two Bishops have had their resignations forced. Litigation lawyers are licking their chops in anticipation of the resulting law suits.

Another ten or so states doing, or about to do the same thing.

The light of day is s very healthy thing.
