So I got an email encouraging me to get the Costco app. Sounds good because I can use it at the door and the checkout. Thinking I could get rid of a card in my wallet, I’m onboard. Then I realize that there is no scanner at the gas pump. Questions: Has anyone seen a scanner at their Costco gas station. Has anyone used the app at the gas station (is there something I’m missing)? Does the Costco credit card work at the gas pump for membership verification as well as payment?

On the membership tab of the app it says that the digital membership card cannot be used at Costco gas stations at this time. That makes me think it will be able to be used or gas at some future time.

Thanks. If I can't get rid of the card, I guess there's not much point in relying on the app.

I use the app because I don't have to get my wallet out twice in the store. It's easier to use the phone and I can use ApplePay at checkout.

I take a conservative attitude towards apps. For ne thing, my phone is running out of storage. For another, apps not only record your activity on that app but share your activity across other apps and other devices- so if I'm going to give up another shard of privacy I want the app to be something I find useful. I have fish around in ny purse for my credit card when I enter Costco- may as well get the Costco card out at the same time.

I've avoided downloading many store apps by using an app called Key Ring. You can take pictures of all your loyalty cards- store, airline, fitness center, airline and hotel, etc. and include pictures of the bar code on the back. It saves me from carrying around a ton of those little tags or downloading every app. It just doesn't work with businesses such as Costco or AAA where they want to see the physical card.
