Finance advise to highschoolers

I think all you need to do is play this music video and discuss it:

I had a math teacher once who talked about himself and one of his coworkers. My teacher had never borrowed money for anything other than a mortgage on his own house; the other teacher (his friend) had a mortgage, but also borrowed money for cars, and ran up credit card debt. As they neared retirement, my math teacher said his savings were twice what his friend's were.

Don't borry money unless absolutely necessary!

Stress a budget. Kind of goes along with saving early, but not the same. Knowing what you spend money on is a very important tool. Not sure at a high school level how much I’d get into asset allocation.

About asset allocation, I have run into many college kids who want to get rich quick with market timing and chasing hot stocks: cannabis company, bitcoin a year ago. I have to amid that I had the same pitfall 20 years ago.

Make a conscience decision to pick up affordable pastimes/hobbies.

If you like golf, pick up disc golf.
Marksmanship? Stick to air rifle, 22lr, or archery events.
Racing cars? Go for cycling or go-karts.

This logic works for vices too: a bowl of pipe tobacco is about 5% the cost of two cigarettes.
