Mathjak, you scoundrel! This thread is so dangerous; (also has great photos). I don’t have the travel bug at the moment but I got it seriously the first time on The City of New Orleans/Shawee Limited back in ‘64. If I have a goal in RE it is to ride that entire route along with the one thru Texas, very dangerous. If you get to the West Coast, Sacramento has a train museum worth checking out.

If you like Scranton, Mathjak, you would also like Altoona. Another big former railroad town. Very nice museum and you can visit the 8th Wonder of the World(at least I think I heard it called that), the Horseshoe Curve. I found it quite amazing. I went there several years ago with my sister and brother in law who were visiting from CA. B-i-l a big railroad buff.
 
Very cool. I have plans to run the Steamtown marathon which finishes in Scranton, next year. I'll check out the museum too!
