New Costco store just opened nearby, what items do u like to buy at Costco.

Costco also has some clothing bargains. Occasionally, they have a waterproof windbreaker jacket for $20. Not the quality of say, a Marmot, but at 1/5 the price it rocks. I'm also happy with their jeans, socks and underwear.

I used to get frozen Trident Wild Akaskan Salmon burgers when I lived in California. They were very good, had a little smoky flavour to them. I wish they were available in Ontario, Canada...

I still buy these. Grill and throw on top of some greens. Easy, quick, cheap, healthy meal.

I bought my last laptop and PC at Costco. On a regular basis we buy:

Gas
Prescription glasses
Coffee
All kind of nuts
Corn tortillas
Sourdough bread
Prescription drugs
Clothing
Organic eggs

We each look at the clothes every time we go there and if we see something we like we chuck it in the cart and at the end of the season we usually don't have to fill in too much clothingwise from other stores. Their clothing prices are always good but the clearance prices can be really exceptional buys - cheaper than Goodwill for brand new items.

In addition to other recommendations, they’re great for Premier Protein shakes.

Just came back with a 2lb bag of frozen blueberries (DH adds to his oatmeal), a male BENCH hoodie and Kirkland men’s 4-pack black T-shirts and Tylenol arthritis ($22 - tons).

My two closest Costco stores are in different states, and the differences are noticeable. Apart from very different layouts inside, one has the separate liquor section with its own entrance, the other doesn't.

Each one also carries (regularly) some items the other one doesn't. So when I want a particular product, I have to remember which one has it.

A bit surprising that a huge national chain like this has these small pockets of non-standardization, but certainly not a problem.
There is a "standard" Costco just down the block from me. It has the food court, etc., but no longer sells the nectar of the gods: Tabasco. Then there is the "business-oriented" Costco a few miles down the road that does not have a food court but sells Tabasco. Go figure.

Also, since Costco allows you to have two memberships for the price of one (if the 2nd is for a family member), I give the second free to my brother and his wife who live a couple hours' drive away from me.

Their tires can be a great bargain and come with a good road hazard warranty and low cost mounting and balancing.

Watch Costco promo's. Michelin Tires go on sale a few times each year! :)

If you buy a package of the eyeglass cleaner at the eye center (2 bottles in a package), they will refill the bottles forever.

Not anymore, at my local Costco. San Jose, Sunnyvale, Calif.

Love everyone's tips on what they buy.

Here in N. Va I buy:

Meat (the pork is an especially good deal)
Electronics
Clothing (from time to time)
Kirkland coffee
Car rentals (easily pays for membership)
Camparis
Wine
Blueberries
Pet prescriptions
Tires
Gas (but never if there is a long line)

We do not buy mass quantities of consumables since we do not use that much, being just 2 people.

Milk and eggs cheaper elsewhere but have picked them up there time to time.

Our local store (10 min away) is not crowded during the week. I even stop in just for camparis and blueberries and use the self-checkout.

In DC I understand they have fabulous deals on liquor,.but here in Va they can't carry that.

Most electronic gadgets: tv, surround system, laptop, printer, ipad

Only one experience with Costco Travel, but well satisfied.

Gas, tires

Prescriptions

Coffee, paper towels, [-]poopy paper[/-] bath tissue, wine, ground beef, salmon, black bean burgers

Hot dog and a soda!

I buy the batteries, TP and paper towels. I used to work for Megacorp that supplied the Kirkland paper towels and TP. We wound up selling Costco a better product than our national brands. They were tough but fair customers.

My take is that the Kirkland brand is as good or better than name brands.

I must be shopping at the wrong Costco store, reading all these replies makes it sound like it's a health food store, at my Costco 90% of the food stuff they sell is junk.

Two Costco things stand out for us: easiest returns ever—no receipt needed, they look an item up on your card; and rewards on the optional credit card

Things I almost always find cheaper at Costco:

Gas
Travel, including car rental
Clothes
Coffee
Wine

Costco has the lowest prices available on many Apple products. MacBook Pros and IMac desktops have routinely been offered for $400 off retail. And they double the warranty and give you a 90 day return period.

I purchased an Iphone 11 Pro Max this week there for $100 off. No other stores were offering discounts on the new IPhones unless you activate a new line. Just this one purchase covered the cost of the membership. And of course the 2% rebate at the end of the year easily exceeds the membership cost.

Regarding the comments on large quantities, I guess we must be the odd exception. We are a household of two and go through stuff so fast that we often buy two of each item to cut down on the number of trips. I’ve never been intimidated by the quantities they sell. Sure we don’t buy a dozen muffins because they are not really a good breakfast choice, but even if we did we would just freeze them and use them within a few weeks.

We bought a bidet there a couple of years ago for $250. After 18 months it failed. We took it back and they gave us a full refund, no questions asked. That alone covered the cost of several years of membership fees.

Things we buy have included:
TVs
Frozen organic blueberries, strawberries, mango
Avocado
cheese
shrimp
bread
frozen salmon and cod
dates, prunes, cranberries, figs

cell phones
shirts, socks, swim suits
Nuts
Vitamins
organic apple juice
coconut water
batteries
chocolate protein powder
etc.
Almost forgot - Hot dog with sauerkraut

Cheers!

I believe that each store's management can adapt what the store carries to suit the local clientele.

I get the white tshirts. I will check out the black ones next time. Thanks.

Steaks (my favorite purchase from costco) , beef roasts, pork roasts, chicken breasts.
Rotisserie chicken.
Toilet paper.
Coffee
Olive oil
Occasion clothing. Jackets, sweat shirts, socks.
Tires and batteries
Car rental (decent pricing, and I feel like they are less likely to mess with me. I've had trouble with low cost car rentals. )
Ham
Strawberry spread (low suger jam)
Croissants, sliced cheeses and meats for large gatherings.
Shrimp cocktail platters
Spices
Vodka and Canadian whiskey (Kirkland)
Wine
Gas
Frozen fresh caught Alaskan cod.
Bread.

I didn't like their frozen pizzas, breakfast burritos, or their organic salsa.

I plan on trying their bulk hamburger soon, and my next laptop and TV will be purchased there, because of their pricing and warranty.

And of course a slice of pizza if I'm hungry.

Take care, JP

Great lists!

I didn't see prescription glasses mentioned. They have very good prices for frames as well as lenses.

Photo prints & products are a great deal too though they recently removed photo-centers from a number of Costco warehouses.

Tires have already been mentioned - but part of the deal is free air-fill-ups with nitrogen & free tire rotation for the life of the tires. They also have regular special deals on tires, so wait for them if possible.

Tasting samples!!

Grazing through Costco. What fun!

I remember picking up my two kids from elementary school and doing a quick trip to Costco. By the time I got home I only had to make dinner for their mom and I.

DW and I went to Costco this AM to become members. If Wednesday mornings are significantly less busy than weekends then I'm in for a real treat when I go back on Sunday afternoon to get my hearing tested.

You have to get to know your local store. I find that Tuesday through Thursday afternoons from about 1:00 to about 4:00 are the quietest times at my closest Costco. I hypothesize that's when Moms with the small children who fill up the store in the mornings are at home for nap time. First thing when they open on Sunday morning is also not too bad. A friend of mine swears that mornings are better than afternoons at her Costco, so try switching up the times you go and see what's best. You might have to wait until January to get a true picture though, from now until Christmas it's always busy.
