Songs of the Sea

Hah, your original choice is still a great one. Better to modify your terms to include any sailing songs or some such. After all, storms on the Great Lakes can be pretty horrendous events.

No real need to modify the terms. This group has a way of doing that on their own :)

Oh man,
asking a sailor about songs of the sea?
More than few come to mind in English:
Lifeboat Mona (a.k.a December '59) : The Dubliners: The Lifeboat Mona HQ - YouTube
Wild Rover: the High Kings Wild Rover - YouTube
Fiddlers Green: The Dubliners - Fiddlers green - YouTube
Leaving Liverpool: The Leaving Of Liverpool - Tommy Makem [7/8] - YouTube
Nova Scotia Farewell: The Irish Rovers - Farewell To Nova Scotia - YouTube
Spanish Ladies (a.k.a. Farewell and Adieu): Farewell and Adieu - YouTube
Rolling Down to Old Maui: Stan Rogers - Rolling Down To Old Maui - YouTube
Santy Anno: Victory Sings at Sea - Santy Anno - YouTube
Marco Polo: The Spinners (UK) - Marco Polo (Live) - YouTube

I guess I should stop now, before the browser collapses from all these youtube players.

Three old ones:
Cry Me a River--Johnny Ray
Sea Cruise: Frankie Ford
Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore: The Highway Men

A whale of a tale is my favorite...about once a year I get it stuck in my head and can't get it out for 6 months....

Michael Douglas singing no less!!!!!!!

Oh, my all time favorite is Van Morrison's Into the Mystic, but bittersweet because I used it as a eulogy for a lost sailor this spring. So beautiful.

LOVE this song Sarah. One of my favorites from Van Morrison and I adore him.
