What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

Online media presuming that subjects on their pages is only available from them, thus expecting one to sign up or in.

I find most subjects available after a quick DuckDUck search, in many locations without roadblocks. Many times I only have a casual interest in the subject, thus pass. Sometimes I am a bit more curious and search for the stuff.
Today's stuff is in The Telegraph about a Doc who prescribes food before drugs, no details. Interesting, but blocked unless subscriber. A quick poke at Duck... and several places show up, no blocked access, turns out she prescribes Plant Based Diet. So an extra pragraph read and moved on. Am not inteested in veganism.

I should try Duck Duck Go instead of Google for searching, thanks.

I can usually get around these stupid roadblocks by using either "In Private Browsing" (Control+Shift+N in the Edge browser), or "Reader mode" which Edge has and several other browsers have as well. But I agree it's so annoying to have to DO that! Seriously these websites seem to be so petty about it. If I ever wanted to subscribe to any of them, their stupid attempts to block access has sure changed my mind about it.

"Your call is important to us."

Oh please, don't insult my intelligence with that crap. If my call was important they'd answer the damn phone but instead companies save themselves time at the expense of my time.

Worse, the computer looks at your phone number and positions you in the queue according to your value to the organization you are calling.

Oh, they don't use DNA, fingerprints, BMI and voice recognition any more? Gee, it's a fast paced world.

They have your camera image from your 'puter, tied to your phone #, if not hot looking, to the end of line you go, repeatedly.

Pet peeve of the day- people who block grocery aisles with their carts and their bodies, totally clueless that others are trying to get by or select an item that they are blocking-these people are either on their phones, or looking at a list, or playing with coupons.

Could not resist:

"Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."

Trying to look at a webpage on my smart phone and can't read anything because of all of the ads that pop up. Today as soon as I got to the page up pops an ad "before you go...." I ain't there yet! Some day I'll learn.

Absolutely.

If your call was important to us we would have answered the phone. In reality we don't care if you live or die. As long as you don't owe us any dough. Which we are trying to save so we have 2 people to answer 100 phone calls an hour.

Haha, you wait, we save dough. Dough is much more important than you. The wait time is now 45 minutes...

My last box of chocolates was Whitmans, and granted that was a long time ago, but it had a map! See's should get their act together.

People (usually older people) who make no attempt to keep up with technology.

I am responsible for training the AARP TaxAide volunteers in my community. We are having virtual training this week. I've already had three Google Meet sessions to explain how to use Chromebooks, Meet, and shared Google drives. Not everyone attended. The last few days I've been getting emailed cries for help ("I can't log in to my AARP email, what is a shared drive, how to I get to the training, etc.")

You would think that after ten months of virus precautions, most people would have some experience with Zoom or Meet or some other platform. Is it really that hard to apply that experience to a different platform? Have they read the emails with explanations of how to access their AARP account?

What makes it more aggravating is that my DH is one of the prime offenders. He is very lazy about learning how to do computer tasks. I don't think he is reading the instructions I send because he knows I am here to help him. I'm tempted to refuse to give him any more help and make him follow the same instructions that all other volunteers receive, but that doesn't promote marital bliss.

I'm not expecting us oldsters to be able to code and do things that come easy to the kids who have been digital from birth. But maybe just stop being afraid of the Chromebook and get on there and poke around? Don't just sit in front of the screen and cry help!

Paying attention to all kinds of threads here help me keep up. I also keep up on certain subreddits to learn not only technology, but the latest slang.

"DW? DW, is that you?........Oh, while you're here, can you......."

Ok technically this was from 2 days ago but....

Tuna cans that only contain enough tuna for about 1/1/2 to 1 3/4 sandwiches.
I feel like I am always trying to stretch it out to fill up 2 full sandwiches.
The 4 oz can needs to be 5oz! !!!!!!

I suppose I could just find smaller slices of bread.
Could pair this with the 12 oz box of what used to be 1 pound of pasta and follow it up with some of that nice half gallon now 1 1/2 quart container of ice cream for dessert.:facepalm::facepalm:
Hidden inflation. I guess that's the real pet peeve for me right now.

Hmm. You made me look. Our Bumble Bee tuna from Costco is in 5.1 oz cans and all varieties of pasta (both Barilla and San Georgio) are in 1 lb boxes.

But the ice cream thing is real and it stinks!

Yes, so annoying! And the 34 ounce coffee cans are becoming 30 ounce, and I have even seen some 24 ounce cans. And higher cost per ounce, of course. They must think consumers want smaller cans. I doubt it, though. Not to ruin the peeve, but some good news: I saw a 40 ounce can of coffee yesterday, and went ahead and bought it, since it was a better price than the small cans, but also just to vote for the big, more efficient can, by buying it.

Ah, the "hot dog" conundrum. Pack of hot dogs? 10. Pack of hot dog buns? 8. Bastards!

Or chip bags that are 3/4 air and 1/4 busted up crumbs.

Socialites.
What the heck sort of occupation is that?
Maybe overpriced escort?

It's a major pet peeve! Over the last few years, my sister was confounded by the fact that her favorite jello-ice cream mould dessert was tasting bad.

Then it dawned on her. The recipe called for a "box" of ice cream. 1/2 gallon! She fixed the issue and all is well, although she grumbled to everyone about it how her cheese was moved and age old recipes were ruined.

Coffee Cups

In the grander scheme of things, especially these days, this pet peeve of mine is a nothing burger. Yet it still kinda bugs me whenever I see it. And I continue to see it to this day after it first caught my attention during that scene in the movie Sleepless in Seattle -- when Tom Hanks and Rob Reiner are walking down Virginia Street toward the Pike Place Market.

Tom Hanks has a paper cup of coffee. (From the original Starbucks in Pike Place?) It is supposed to contain some coffee but, to my eyes, the cup is obviously empty by the way it is being held by Hanks.

Over the years since, I often see in movies and on TV actors holding or drinking from a cup of coffee. But it almost always appears to be an empty cup, by the way it is being held by the actor. Or, almost as often, they will tilt a supposedly full cup of fresh coffee to their mouth by over a 45 degree angle, when in real life you'd tilt a full cup just a bit. (And it's almost always coffee--not milk or soda.) ;)

We use DuckDuck...they don't track you. Google tracks you and their algorithms are heavily biased. They also suppress information that they think you don't need to see.

Pet peeve...I hate previews/intros of shows that give away a plot twist or something important right at the beginning.

Another...reno shows that show the completed reno during the intro. As an avid DIYer I'd prefer not to see it until the end so I can "play along" and wonder how I would do the job.

The USPS is the most incompetent government agency. I ordered an item and paid for priority mail. It shipped from San Antonio, TX and arrived at Baton Rouge in 1 day. 2nd day of delivery it didn't move. 3rd day it moved 25 miles to my local post office and was sent out for delivery. Did I get it? Nope! According to their tracking it shows as an attempted delivery and was being held at a different post office at the request of the customer. How is this possible? Now I have to waste my time going to that post office looking for my package tomorrow. Why offer a premium delivery service if you aren't going to fulfill your part of the deal? And I am pretty sure when I get to the post office tomorrow morning it won't be there.

USPS has been a disaster for a couple of months now. I had a replacement credit card that took one month to arrive. I didn't wait, after a week I called the CC company and got one by FedEx. Pro Tip - if you have to cancel a Citi CC don't do it online, there is no option to expedite delivery of the new one. They only FedEx replacement cards if you ask, but you have to call them.

I still get discs from Netflix to get a better selection of movies, those are taking weeks instead of days. Fortunately, NF is allowing extra disks out at the same time to make up for it.

A consulting payment that usually arrives in a few days took 3 weeks.

I heard that my closest USPS distribution center got hammered by Covid, so I don't know if this is nationwide or regional.
