2021 Investment Performance Thread

Here's my monthly check-in:

Jan 2021: -0.69% YTD
Feb 2021: +2.06% YTD
Mar 2021: +3.71% YTD
Apr 2021: +8.61% YTD
May 2021: +7.78% YTD
Jun 2021: +9.86% YTD

June was a fairly uneventful month, trending slowly upward for me, for the most part. There was a bit of a hiccup around the middle, where I was down about 0.67%. But I recovered pretty quickly, and ended the month near an all-time high.

May 2021 pie increased 0.84%.
2021 YTD up 6.11%.

Almost finished with 401(k) rollover process. Submitting #2 of 2 for rollover this week. That will be one less login and lookup for the end of the month report.
June 2021 pie increased 0.28%.
2021 YTD Total is up 6.39%.

Performance of 50/50 portfolio is probably north of 6%.

Finished the 401(k) rollover process.
Now focused on spending more on gifts, memories and experiences.

Up 7.15% on 50/50 allocation. A portion is my aggressive Roth up 34.18% ytd.

Retirement portfolio YTD return through Q2 2021: 10.27% vs benchmark VTHRX (Vanguard Target 2030): 7.87%.

Stock/bond allocation follows VTHRX (66/34).

All-in, up 9.8% for the year. Certainly can't complain, although I happened to have done a pull on 6/15 and I was up 10.6%, so pulled back some. This is on a 2/3 equities allocation with about half of that domestic.

Cherry picking: One of my Roth accounts is up 40.1% YTD, and I don't have to share those gains with Uncle Sam!

YTD up 9.58% with 50/50 AA
VSIAX has been best fund this year (23.12%) while last year it was only 5.85%

YTD up 10.24%

60/40 not counting real estate.

YTD +24% (corrected to "+"). Not excited since this is driven largely by rebound in oil stocks after a very poor 2020 year.
AA currently 82/18 due to large equity index purchases during the Covid correction. These paid off nicely.

That’s a bummer -24%

Just our Vanguard account is up 14.3% in the first 6 months of the year.
That amounts over 5 times my yearly spending. I have no words, I'm just...

Spend it quick. Before the market god takes it back. :D

Brokerage + Retirement accounts (including contributions) has us up 15.2% YTD on a 78.5%/19%/2.5% AA. Hit our FI number at the end of Q1 and now we're adding on paper gains as we build a cash bucket and plan for RE.

I've been studying the "Blow that Dough!" thread, so far I'm failing. Report Card says, I have room for improvement. Needs to put in more effort.

S&P 500 total return up 31% in ‘19, 18% in ‘20 and 16% at mid point ‘21.

I FIRE’d in 2019. WR% cut by 1/3 since. I am blessed.

Compounding ROI on no debt has been amazing for me.

Hard to explain the power of investing to folks who haven’t started. The gap only widens. It really is sad.

Those of us that had any kind of a nest egg for the last 10 years have been blessed.
I retired almost 3 years ago, my sequence of returns has had a great start.
I had thoughts about, "how lucky we all are", should have it's own thread, but I'll leave that for someone else.

1.31 x 1.18 x 1.16 = 1.793

You made me look at my own records.

From 2019/1/1 till now, my stash grows 1.768X, using moneychimp formula. After WR, the balance still grow 1.719x. Wow!

My number is not too shabby, because I am never 100% invested. My stock AA ranged from 60% to 75-80% max. And I also have significant stinkin' international stocks, which trail the S&P.

While patting myself on the back, I also believe that this bull market simply cannot last forever. With a WR of less than 1%, I have room to blow dough, but have not found something worthwhile or the urge to do so.

PS. Records show that $10,000 invested in SPY on 2019/1/1 becomes $17,902 yesterday. With VT (Vanguard Total World Stock), it's $16,674.

Years from now, people who look back in history will not believe that the above market performance coincided with a world pandemic. There will be many scholarly articles written on this phenomenon.
