My two adult daughters both sent in their 2019 taxes by mail around the start of the Corona virus a few months ago and still haven't received paper refund checks from the IRS yet.

I know sending it in by mail is the slow way of doing it but we used my Turbo Tax software and I had already used the one e-file that came with it so my simply printed my daughters out and mailed them.

I know the virus situation has caused issues with the IRS but you'd think they would have caught up by now. Anyone else still waiting for a paper check by mail? Hard part is there is no way of knowing the IRS actually received them. The IRS web site's "check your refund" still has no status of it.

Yeah, I still haven't gotten mine. I filed a long time ago, back in late Feb. I think. It's only $385 refund, so I'm not sweating it, but still, come on gummint, get yer **** together. Mine is a direct deposit, not snail mail.

Mailed in federal late Feb, still waiting for direct deposit into checking.

According to the IRS website:

Paper Tax Returns: All taxpayers should file electronically through their tax preparer, tax software provider or IRS Free File if possible. The IRS is not currently able to process individual paper tax returns. If you already have filed via paper but it has not yet been processed, do not file a second tax return or write to the IRS to inquire about the status of your return or your Economic Impact Payment. Paper returns will be processed once processing centers are able to reopen.

[bold is mine]

Apparently, the IRS has determined they are not essential

Yeah, @Cobra's quote is what I heard earlier.

My son's waiting on his federal refund. Paper filed in late February, and the return has been received and in process since late March. He did already receive his stimulus direct deposit a while ago.

Thanks, sounds like my kids are simply in the same boat as others with the wait. Luckily they don't need the money badly. More the point of waiting that long. Thanks.

Still no refund here either...

And had requested direct deposit...

Same exact situation here except with a 1.5k refund. I finally spoke to a rep and they couldn't explain it.
I am waiting for the local IRS office to reopen, so I can go there in person and get it straightened out.

Filed electronically in February. Nothing yet. Eyeroll.

We don't need the money for anything pressing and can wait, but I think of the folks who have urgent need of their tax refunds. Wish the gubment would get a move on. What's the hold up on the electronic filings?

I lack the patience for that sort of abuse. My frugal self might pay $1.5k to avoid it. Good luck to you.

Did you go to the website where you can check payment status? What did it say?

On the other hand, I received a large refund from the IRS (sent via paper check in late March). That was before I filed for 2019, so it pertains to a previous return. But there was no explanation and I have no idea what it's for. I owe money for 2019.

We filed electronically April 17 and received our refund into our bank April 29.

I filed with Turbotax at the end of April. The Feds pulled the money I owed last week. The DC government transferred my refund this week.

For me, the website just says still in process.
It appears from examples, that returns filed later went through okay with timely refunds.

Lots of different IRS processing centers in different states. Around here, the Fed offices (other than DoD) are following the state's health orders so it seems plausible to me that IRS centers in different places could have different reopening dates as well as different types/sizes of backlogs since they shutdown at different times.

I filed at the beginning of april electronically and my refund status still shows as the process being in progress. (My refund is around $2,700.) Did most of you file electronically like myself or by mail?

We filed electronically on March 8th and it still shows in process for us as well. Our refund is larger than the stimulus so that would've been a better option for us.

Printed and mailed my paper return in early March. IRS website shows no info available. Waiting on large refund ($13k) because of ACA subsidy credit.

Why didn't you take it upfront, or it wasn't planned to be that large?

Yes, still no status what so ever. It's as if the envelope was date stamped when it arrived months ago but never actually opened, simply sitting in a big stack with millions of others. It's the California IRS office so I assume that has something to do with it, most offices are still shut down around here.
