I will also be joining the class of 2020 on March 31, 2020. A little earlier than planned but my work situation is not great and it makes sense financially (not to mention for stress reduction) to pull the plug at that time. Looking forward to the next chapter!!

I am retiring 9/1/2020. Well kind of retiring, my wife and I own a small business and will be working 5 to 10 hours a week in the business.
 
Debating about a shift change these last months. I hate nights BUT the 25% premium pay is really tempting and the work load is usually lighter.

Plus I could work half time the last 2 months if I wanted.
 
I'm now officially part of the 2020 class, beginning in mid May.
As a backdrop, I semi-retired and moved to Reno in July 2015 (at 57), but was able to work for half-pay, online flex at my previous position teaching online. I was considered retired and qualified for State health benefits (and withdraw 403b funds), but was happy to continue working. So I considered myself half class of 2015 and half 2020 (the reduction in hours and stress was so marked, that I have considered myself retired, although I don't meet the test of the purists on the blog).

For those lucky enough to be able to do something similar, I do recommend at least trying part-time flex for a a few months or a year, although I had summers completely off, so admittedly this was an ideal scenario (since I enjoyed working, all the more at part-time).
This gig was traditionally limited to 5 years, and I hit the max 5 years this year, so I'll now be completely retarded (as my Okie granddad called it) in May, although paychecks will continue through Oct 1 of this year.


In the meantime, the 403b/401ks are up 500k, enough that two years ago I told DW (4 years younger) to completely retire rather than work through this year, which was the original plan.
What will I do with all that additional time?--although I have a long reading list and two new grandkids.

Congrats. I worked a total of 34 years.
You will get used to it. When you wake up tomorrow, you will have a big smile on your face.
 
Congrats! There is nothing like the first day being retired. I went out Jan 2 and I am still walking on air.

My brother has a share as well. I should be gifted a share just for freezing my butt on those metal bleachers all those early, non winning years, sitting in Lambeau.

Gotta put a date or it'll never happen.... so I'll say 6/30/20. Ex says he'll take to out for dinner if I do it by then.

It's time. Tomorrow I'm in a meeting about a megacorp data initiative Déjà vu all over again. A similar project about 8 years ago fizzled , after $$$s spent. The bs bucket has filled to the brim.

Picking up my new laptop today so I'll be ready to give freelancing a try. And get started on my taxes so I can do ER "what if" scenarios..

Gulp.

I recently found out that an upcoming reorg might put me in the position of not wanting to take what role they have left for me - essentially I run a WW sales organization today, with some pretty nice perks, and the future role would be much smaller. I've gotten to see the world over the past few years like I never would have imagined: Israel, London, Singapore, Japan, Cambodia, Denmark, Paris, Portugal and a few I'm sure I've forgotten. Seriously, I'm beyond lucky. I have a nice chunk of RSUs vesting by the end of September ($250K-$300K depending on what the stock does). My boss loves me and will likely find me something, but I'm not sure I want to. BTW - I have to ignore the amount of RSUs I'd be leaving on the table.

Also, DW, God I love her, recently took a job with another large company with outstanding benefits. She LOVES Sunday nights because she can't wait to get back to work on Monday. Plans to work for another few years - maybe 4 or 5. Her salary can almost cover our expenses. And healthcare is taken care of.

Every calculator I can find says "um, I guess if you WANT to keep working, then go ahead, but crystal ball says you will be more than fine." BTW - it's also fine if I remove DW's job.

I examined our expenses over the last two years (we don't really "budget"), and I'll be damned, they were right at $10K/month like we estimated, plus the budgeted big ticket items like a family trip and a new car.

And then this past weekend I was going through one of my old files. It was from about 27 years ago when we were married about 9 years. It was our dream list. Little things like "paint shed" or "get ceiling fan in our room" to big things like "take a cruise" or "take a family vacation to Europe." We did most of them, but one we haven't yet was "have a retirement party for unpaintedhuffhines at 55." A lot of fun to look at that list.

I'm three years past that, so maybe it's time. I have no idea what I'll do all damn day, but I figure others have figured it out, so I can probably can too.

So, October 1, 2020 for me.
 
As I sit here in the manufacturing plant on a Saturday, I can smile knowing: 1. This is my last business trip, 2. I don't work any more Fridays, 3. I only work one more Monday.

All systems 'go'... Countdown commencing. 14 days left in the office until I get rid of working altogether.

I'm ready to join the others in the class of 2020 that have acheived their "commencement".

I corrected my final day. My last real day was last week because I had surgery I got to go early
