What is your Base Housing Cost for 2022 (Tax + Insurance + HOA) w/o mortgage?

Pretty sure the landlord pays property taxes and passes the bill on to the renters so they are effectively paying their fair share as well.

I agree in a fair world that would certainly be the case, but in WA, the landlord tenant laws restrict what and how you can charge for rents. As I have learned as a landlord, we get to let folks live for free and nearly impossible to evict.

Property tax (1900 sq ft + finished bsmt on 0.3 acre lot) = ~$4200/yr
Insurance = $720/yr
HOA fee = $240/yr
no mortgage

Total of $5160/yr

Yeah, I don't understand those laws. If someone doesn't pay their rent on time the owner should be able to remove their possessions from the landlords property and change the locks. No reason for people to be living for free for months on the landlords dime. That is why I never became a landlord even though I was interested.

I think I have a chance of winning this. 1467 SF home on a 50x168 lot. No mortgage. No HOA. Home insurance $545/yr. Taxes $319/yr.

Where do you live that you can get a 1467 SF house for $319/yr in taxes? Did you forget a 0 at the end, haha?

2100 sq. ft home on .25 acres

2022
Property tax: $4414
Home Insurance: $1117
Flood Insurance: $780
No HOA
No mortgage

Total: $6311/yr

2022 was 1.5% higher than 2021. Here is 2022:

RETax: $11375
Ins: $1696
HOA: $135
Total: $13206
2021
RETax: $11345
Ins: $1495
HOA: $165
Total: $13005
We are both home bodies so having a large, nice home is important to us. Our withdrawal rates over the last two years were below 2%, so the cost is not a problem for us. YMMV.

2021 RE tax $13,427
2021 Home Ins $1,510

2022 RE tax $13,435
2022 Home Ins $1,820 up 22%

Might have to shop for new insurance company. And our RE will go up next year at least 5% because they already announce a big expenditure. This is on top of high income tax rate. I need to move out as soon as kids are done with school. Lol

Well, I've been hoping for someone to post higher costs than mine, but I'm going to be the loser here. 1 BR co-op apartment in NYC:

2021
Maintenance/mo. (includes RE tax): $1559
Insurance: $580
Total: $19,288

I notice that utilities, etc. haven't been included in housing costs. I might do a little better there -- nothing for heating oil, water or garbage pickup!

When I saw "Base Housing Cost" in the title, my first thought was, "We haven't lived in base housing since I was stationed at McCoy AFB in 1972." :)

That's what I was thinking! That, and how much is BAQ by now. LOL

Homeowner's Insurance $2900

Property Taxes--$0 My wife is disabled, and state & local property tax waiver received.

We couldn't sustain our standard of living if we had a mortgage.

4500 SF home suburban DC

Annual costs:

Mortgage: $8,112
Property taxes: $7,514
Insurance: $1,450
HOA: $1,045

Total $18,121 or $1510 per month

3300 sq. ft. SFH in SF Bay Area:

Property taxes $12,500
HO insurance $4,500
EQ insurance $4,500

The HO insurance increased about 25% last year due to all the fires. Can't reduce the premium much as we already have a deductible in the 5 figures. Due to Prop 13, our property taxes are cheap based on the current value of our home.

Taxes = $1800
Insurance = $1200
HOA and Mortgage = $0
House is appraised at 300k in west Ky. 3000 sft

2350 square foot home on .3 acres. 2022 numbers represent a 6% increase from 2021 all from another 10% increase to my home insurance. Currently shopping home and auto insurance as USAA hasn't been showing me the love the last few years with their rising rates.

2022

Taxes 895
Insur 1,531
HOA 0
Mort 0

Total $2,426

Monthly $202

Where do you people live:confused: I can’t believe how low the property taxes are in the towns you live in. I’m in NJ where I have 2 homes including a beach condo and the property taxes on EACH are over $13,000/ year!
I guess I see why a lot of people move in retirement and don’t mind being far away from their families ( we will not).

2505 sqft home on 1/3 acre. Home built in 1857, and right on Long Island Sound. (numbers are annual):

$13,429 -- property tax
$ 3,749 -- homeowner's insurance

It's expensive to live in Paradise.
