Just got notice the "office" (I work remote from home) is closing 2 hrs early to "celebrate" Memorial day weekend next Friday so that means I get to start my retirement 2 hrs. early. Heck, with only one week to go you could say I am already "semi-retired"!!

Officially FIRED
As of yesterday, 5/27/16 @3 pm EDT, I am retired. Just to remind me the company (now ex-company) did a remote factory reset of my iphone at 3:01 before i could even ship it back to them. As it is a 3 day holiday weekend I guess my first "official" day of retirement will be Tuesday 3/31/16.

CONGRATS....I out smarted Megacorp before they could mess with my Iphone or computer. I called a month prior to transfer the phone into personal liability. When they asked me send back the phone, I sent them the approved email from corporate and advised them I had turned off all the provisioning apps and had no further email access. I was my personal gift from corp. I would advise others to take advantage of such policies before they pull the plug. After just the few months of being FIRED, I could never go back.

We just returned from two weeks in London. It was an amazing trip. And, I didn't have to rush back to work the next day. I didn't have 600 emails in my inbox. Life is good.

Guess I need to formally remove myself from the list. I am cutting back to part-time, but not fully retiring at this time. I prefer to think of it as transition period starting in June. Sort of like the kid who gets to go through graduation, but still has a couple classes required to get the actual diploma

Unfortunately I too must withdraw from the class of 2016 to complete at least OMY. Last 6 months have been an eye opener as to how much my parents and almost launched kids will need $$ from me in the future. Parents in particular are late 80s and likely to both live into their 90s. Only very recently have they confided that their cash reserves are nearly exhausted. They are very prideful and have deliberately mislead me and siblings about their reserves as they didn't want to be a "burden". They never thought they would live to the ages they have achieved. Gotta work a bit longer so I don't pass the favor on to my kids. Really do not resent the responsibility but can't help being a little disappointed.

Well, today is my first official day of retirement! Or at least, I think it is. I'm not sure HR has actually processed the paperwork on time (though I turned it in in March). They have not cut off my cellphone or email yet (so I set the out of office message to say I no longer work there and won't be checking it ). I asked my supervisor yesterday if he had received the paperwork to check off that I return all my old computers, and he said he's received nothing....whatever.
I walked around a lake this morning, had a leisurely breakfast at my favorite spot, and been frittering away the afternoon on the internet.
Life is good.

Count me in, I pushed the button this week. Last day at work is Aug 31, first ER day is Sept 1. I found that I was getting angrier every time stress headed my way at work. There's little financial reason to stay. Struggling with a sense of 'duty' that staying helps the organization. The reality is - it just prolongs the agony.
Like the work, hate the commute and the BS that comes with the work. Two salaried professionals in the dept. The other job has been vacant for 4 months. Will be filled in 2 weeks with someone I trust and respect. Wish I could give her more training time, but it won't happen. There's always going to be some reason/project/whatever on the horizon that could be used as a reason to stay.
Worked since I was 16. Big change, but I'm ready.
