Just finished my first week as a retiree. It was great! Still woke up at the normal time but stayed in bed an extra 30-60 mins reading the news on my phone. Had a couple of scheduled dr appointments. Went to the gym 4 times. Lots of errands and I started knocking a few things off of the TO DO list. Life is good! :)
 
I think I am going to have to push my date to May 28. My boss just retired yesterday (announced in December) and I didn't want to get in the middle of his farewell tour or complicate things for him if they asked him to stay and assist in hiring a dept. replacement (its a two person technical department and I am the senior one). So now I just have to get the courage to tell my new boss by the end of this month that I will provide 2 months notice. Is it good or bad that it seems like such a monumental decision? I KNOW I am going, I cannot go through another key "busy" season (begins in September) but walking in and pulling the cord is quite unnerving.

I’m having the same issue @Aramis.
I have been debating between March or September. Well, I need to give at least 3 months notice so March is out.
Now I’m debating June or September. It’s pulling the plug and giving notice that has me sort of frozen. I really don’t want to work another summer. But I need to decide quickly if I’m going to bail in June.

Good luck with your decision and let us know when you do give notice. I’d be interested to hear how you finally decided.
 
I gave notice to my principal and the superintendent of schools 3 days ago. I'm not leaving until the end of the school year, but I feel lighter already! :dance: It was definitely nerve-wracking to hit send on that email, but it felt like the right time to make it official. Telling people I've worked with my entire career has definitely been bittersweet. And the poor souls are all jealous. ;)

I did it. At 55 & 1/2 I pulled the trigger. Turned in all of the paperwork today and my last day is June 4. Now the countdown begins.

Was very nervous until I decided to pull the trigger last week. Kept delaying, kept moving the date, kept worrying about funding even though I was told by multiple retirement folks that I was 99% good in the models. But once I did it, I slept very well. Not sure what my plans are past doing some travel. Not sure if I will stay retired or not, not sure if I will enjoy retirement or not. Not sure about much but I am positive it is time to enjoy life.
 
I'm officially FIRE'd!

This morning my last real act of work was sending out an email BCC to several co-workers. The responses I received were heartwarming.

After two weeks of calls explaining my plans with those in my immediate group and uploading my MegaCorp knowledge to others, it's nice to be able to move on to the next chapter of life. I'm still a bit nervous about taking the leap of faith this requires but I know I've done (or overdone) my planning, scheduling, running scenarios and generally staring at Excel spreadsheets to review numbers.

Thanks so much to this forum for the information and guidance. I hope to pay it forward to others in the Class of 2021 and beyond if asked.
 
Still on track for 3/31. I got a nice surprise phone call from my boss last Friday telling me I got a bonus that I wasn't expecting.
 
First of all CONGRATULATIONS to all of my classmates of 2021 that have already successfully pulled the cord!

My plans have changed somewhat due to COVID. I am closing on my new home in Colorado in late April or early May. I will then give notice and offer to work remotely from Colorado for up to 6 months. Once I get their response I will update my date on the list.

Hi! Today is officially my last day of work, and I can finally add the RE part to FI! My user name changed a while back from HNL Bill to HI Bill after I moved from Oahu to my retirement home on the Big Island.

While ER is what I've been striving for since 1998, actually pulling the plug, and putting an end to OMY was much harder than I thought. Last year in March, I was REALLY ready, but COVID-19 and travel restrictions happened, and it made economic sense to tough it out another year. That time has flown, in part due to moving, w#rk, and setting up a new house. Looking forward to my first weekend day that's just another day of retirement! My wife and I were talking about our 'schedule' in retirement, with regards to which days we'll cook full breakfasts, which days we'll go diving or hiking, and which days we'll work on the house or go grocery or hardware shopping. I'm so ready!
