Hot time in the big town tonight: we went to McDonald's.

They were working the last of the punch list-- installing the emergency AED on the wall by the trash cans.

That cracks me up. The damage control approach to risk management. :ROFLMAO:

Yesterday took the pickup truck to a "touchless" car wash to get the worst of the road salt/grime off, about the second time I've ever done that. Then took it home and washed it by hand, changed the oil and greased the chassis parts.

A neighbor took us out to lunch as a "thanks" for me using the snow thrower to clear his driveway. Not necessary, but it apparently made him feel better and was a nice time.

This morning I clay-barred the truck and put on a light wax, made a grocery run with DW, and then took her car to an auto body shop to get a trim piece stuck back on. It goes between the roof and the doors and the glue finally gave up. Twenty bucks to learn that it's a double-sided tape to withstand the huge variations in temperature on the roof. Oh well, pay the man for what he knows, it was worth it (the missing piece was really bugging DW and now she's happy) and I figure that's about the cheapest I'll ever get out of a body shop.

Hard disk transplant on a laptop for a friend of ours. Their old disk died just a few days before a big road trip, and they rely pretty heavily on the laptop while away. The 'patient' lived. :)

Moral: Backups are important. Recent backups doubly so...

Recovering from surgery I had yesterday. Had deviated septum repaired, a turbintate reduction, tonsilectomy and UP3 which includes removal of uvula and trimming of soft palate. All this to hopefully cure sleep apnea and stop bad snoring. Yesterday was hell whenever demerol wore off. Had no idea I swallowed so much. Big time youch. Anyway, spent last night in hospital but came home about 10:30 today. My DW has made a wonderful transition into being my nurse but maybe even a tad over attentive. Recovery expected to take 2-3 weeks before back to normal.
Ouch....sorry about your boo boo.. I hope you feel better soon...:)

-------------

Went through stacks of file folders today and got rid of a lot of stuff; hopefully I'll get this project done tomorrow. Gonna have spaghetti and meatballs tonight accompanied by a bottle of wine. Then later will watch The Days of Wine and Roses.

Writing. Then some more writing. Then a break, followed by more writing. Then, before I did more writing, I decided to fit in a little writing.

The blog is loaded up for next week, I've caught up on e-mail, and I've answered three of our Christmas cards...

We also helped some neighbors get ready for family. Their oldest son is returning to the islands, courtesy of the U.S. Army, along with his spouse and their two boys. They're going to live with Grandma & Grandpa for a few months until the housing waiting list clears.

They shipped their 15-year-old dog ahead. She arrived a couple days ago and seemed to be settling in fine. Then today while we were cleaning and making beds and testing smoke alarms, she quietly slipped out of the back yard and toured the neighborhood. By the time we realized she'd gotten away from us she'd already traveled a half-mile up the street and was headed back. She had tags and a chip and would probably have been OK, but that was enough excitement for one day for everyone.

While relatives were visiting, we had two long and close trivial pursuit games. That really is an entertaining game due to a good combination of luck and "skill." It sure can be frustrating when you know the answer, but can't remember it.

Jenny and I had a great leisurely bike ride yesterday, in which we rode side-by-side and chatted the whole time.

Spent last night in the hospital as there was no resident available. Didn't sleep a wink! I'm too old for this!!!! Was able to find a colleague to cover me for a few hours while I came home to sleep. Now getting ready to resume patient care.

Happy New Year everyone!

Boy do I remember those nights ! Happy New Year !

A big thanks, especially on behalf of those who needed care.

W*rked many Christmas/new years/Thanksgiving night shifts as "essential". Usually, I'd ask for one or two volunteers to stay, take everyone else's time cards and let them go home a few hours early, and take care of their time cards by punching out at the right time and sign off.

Happy new year.

Today I am going to undecorate the house . Christmas this year was too much . I had been sick for the first two weeks of December and then my Mom arrived followed by my Sister . On Christmas I had sixteen people for dinner and now I want my life back . Hopefully Monday when my Mom returns to my sister's I can again resume my usual routine .It got so bad at one point that I told my Mom I was going to the grocery store but in reality I went to the neighborhood pub for a wine . I guess I am doomed to hell.

Me too. Yes, the holidays can become a chore. I started to think that if I became an RV full-timer, I would have a legitimate reason not to host more parties. Yes, how could I think that? But I am destined to go to hell anyway, so it does not matter. Yes, even if I have been living like a monk compared to others here on this forum. I am doomed!

My long ago dead braincells of Latin only functioned enough to help find the essentials of absolutions. Duly copied for your benfit.

2011...here we go!

I had a fabulous time last night. I got all decked out and was escorted by a very handsome man in suit and tie. Mr Boston wears a suit very nicely.
We went to the local Legion for food and drinks and DJ music. One other lady had a pretty party dress and heels on also. The rest of the folks were in jeans and sweatshirts. C'est la vie.
Several of the guys told me how gorgeous I looked, which of course was not appreciated by their female partners. Odd to get a compliment and a dirty look all in one instant. :D
We danced until our calves ached, and celebrated the New Year with the traditional kiss...and kiss...and kiss...

Today was spent unpacking, doing laundry, stapling self adhesive bath tread strips to the front wooden steps so we don't fall on our keisters when it gets icy, and making chicken soup in the crockpot.
It is raining and warm, with temps in the low 50s. YAY!

Funniest comment ever--I think you should put this on your Christmas card next year, Moe! If you don't, I'm going to steal it.

I will borrow a quote from a long time friend, a native Floridian...he refers to some of his better sayings as "plain old rebel philosophy".

"I'll be at the gates of hell handing out the ice cubes."

Good old Catholic guilt, eh?
If your family is driving you to drink, it's time to can Christmas. Next year, tell them to go somewhere else.

I got an Iphone 4 as a Christmas present. I hope it won´t be a case of our Spanish saying: "Throwing daisies to the hogs"..... My first impression is that as a working phone, the Bberry Torch does a better job. But then ....What do I know:)!

Did a shopping run yesterday (cat/bird/squirrel/me food).
Did almost nothing today.

Made the best-tasting and most satisfying meal I've had in a long time last night. SO and I made a spicy seafood stew in the slow cooker:

Oysters, spicy sausage chunks, shrimp, crab meat, bacon, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, cajun seasoning, chopped garlic cloves, a dash of Worcestershire sauce, and a little water. Threw it all in the slow cooker for 9 hours and ate with oyster crackers and champagne (as we approached midnight).

It was one of those meals that I am still dreaming about this morning. We already have another batch in the slow cooker for tonight.

As I just woke up a 4pm this new years day, I am still feeling quite lazy and would love some of this slow cooker stew. Sounds wonderful and would fit in with my low carb lifestyle. Enjoy!

For the 18th year in a row, we prepared our traditional New Year's brunch of smoked chicken and butternut squash hash, with poached egg on top, together with cranberry scones and honey walnut butter. Washed down with a bottle of Veuve Cliquot. We get out the linen tablecloth and napkins, the silver and the crystal. Put some classic jazz on the stereo and ring in the New Year. It was sunny today, which was particularly nice

Went to the mall to see about using a gift card. Came home and washed the roadster, which had collected a ton of sawdust sitting in the garage during a recent woodworking project.

DH whipped up some hoppin' john so we can get the luck of the black-eyed peas today.

Watching the Larry Sanders show marathon on IFC. My favorite show from years ago. I'm not quite getting into it 15 or so years later. Though a young Sarah Silverman was hilarious.

This morning the rest of my dividends showed up at Vanguard. So, I recorded them and then withdrew all of my 2010 dividends, for spending in 2011. (I move 1/12th from savings to checking every month to simulate a paycheck.) I put January's 1/12th into checking...

... so today was "payday".

After that, I sold a fund and completely rebalanced everything according to my AA. It came out correct to the penny.

What a heady rush! I have EXACTLY my asset allocation today. :D This will probably be the only day of the year when it will be exact, so I am enjoying it.

Oh, and then we went to lunch at a Chinese place. Sesame chicken, crawfish springrolls, and rice. Yum.
