I'm done with Mike&Ike jelly beans (or whatever you want to call them). A couple of weeks ago, they caused a tooth ache from the sweetness that resulted in having a crown being cut off and a replacement ordered. Today I, foolishly, had some more and another crown came off when I got a jelly bean that was much stickier than the rest.

Another trip to the dentist in the morning...

I had been eating them instead of chocolate candy because the chocolate causes problems with GERD. I guess its back to no candy, which probably is a good thing, but not much fun.

I used to buy Tootsie Rolls and stash them for a year or so so that they would get a bit stale. I love them that way, but since I've gotten a couple of crowns I've had to eat my Tootsie Rolls fresh. They're still pretty good, but it's just not the same.

There's always ice cream.....;)

I loved frozen Milky Way bars, until the Dentist had a discussion about how they destroyed dental work. They're not the same!

We took the train into San Francisco to see the play, It's Only a Play. We enjoyed it - well designed set, great acting and lots of laughs.

Enjoyed a Palm Sunday Church Service and tonight watched Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ. Spoke with DS about Easter plans. DIL wasn’t available and she is the Social Director of their family, so will be waiting:::hmmm:::patiently.

Made a big pot of vegetable soup with the 25 cent head of cabbage I picked up today. Tomatoes, carrots, garbanzos, kale, onions, brown rice and asparagus. Tasted good with warm crusty bread.

That sounds delicious!

I had that same battle with popcorn because I could't stop myself from biting the burnt unpopped kernels. Two crowns later, the memory of a root canal outweighs any popcorn urge. Our teeth are cardboard.

Painted the french door into my home office yesterday so spent an hour this morning scraping the paint off the glass panes and reattaching the hardware.

Then took the Rav4 in for an oil change. It was a nice day so I decided to walk over to the nearest hypermarket for a cappuchino and sit in their restaurant area and wait out the oil change. It was such a nice day that I forgot about the stop and just kept walking for an hour in the sunshine.

Came home and DW made Chinese mixed veg for dinner. Just before it was ready my business partner texted me and said things are slow, so not to bother going into work tomorrow.

Didn't have to twist my rubber arm...

Its snowing pretty good right now. Not much accumulation yet. I put the chains and the plow back on the truck this afternoon. While doing that, the temp dropped from over fifty to the thirtys as the clouds rolled in. The temp just got down below 30. I may be busy plowing tomorrow.

LOL! That was the name I thought of, but decided I better figure out the "proper" name. I actually had to do a google search for medical instruments so I could post my question. :D
It's the original multi-tool. Loved by anglers, docs and ents.[emoji111]

Spent part of the day discovering/learning that dividend investing most likely isn't all that I hoped it would be. Put four of those convincing ER Forum members on my ignore list.

After research I came to the same conclusion about dividend investing.

Why not just invest as you normally would. Your dividends will be smaller, but you can make it a goal to live off that amount or not too much more than that amount.

I don't do dividend investing either. Most years I live off dividends + SS + mini-pension, but some years I just don't - - like 2015 when I bought my dream home.

Rainy yucky day here, made a gluten-free chocolate cake. Waiting for it to cool before applying frosting. Despite DW's claims of wanting to lose weight chocolate anything "evaporates" fairly quickly around here. By that I mean it disappears in small amounts, but it'll be gone in two or three days.

ETA: Yep, DW was just in here wanting to do a "quality assurance check" on the cake. It doesn't even have the frosting on it yet!

Your wife must be my kindred spirit. Chocolate is my downfall.

Just finished an hour on the spin bike. I’m working on building my endurance in the saddle because I agreed to a new trip as part of my guiding gig. It’s a four day, trip on a rails-to-trails corridor. I’m familiar with the trail and it’s not a bad ride. The issue will be spending ~4 hours per day on the bike for four consecutive days. My legs and lungs will be okay but I have to condition my derrière for that.

My wife’s birthday today so I took her and my mom to a new Indian casino, we got $25 each in food comps, ended up getting lunch there, dinner to go and a triple chocolate fudge birthday cake for her.

Not me, but DW just returned from the Community Pool where she regularly encounters three sisters 'of a certain age' who all live together, and go there to use the Therapy Pool...............she found out today that they refer to her as "The Little Swimming Lady".

Perhaps we should relocate to Copenhagen?

I live in Iowa and finally we have a day above 55 and not too windy and mostly sunny! So we have walked in our 'hood and at our closest state park, and also went for a quick bike ride. I was able to hang my sheets out to dry. So I am having a lovely day, before we go back to below normal temps.

Had an interesting day today. We have a couple of different checking accounts. One we don't use but have it because the bank requires it for some reason I don't recall right now. So we keep a $100 in it and ignore it.

Well, earlier this week the DW wrote a check for a couple of thousand $$ on our regular checking account -- except she inadvertently picked up the wrong checkbook.

The folks at the bank were very nice about it. First they called me. Then they called the DW. She drove over and took care of it. The bank didn't even assess a fee.

Complicated day:

1. Change the whole house over for Passover, which I include spring cleaning. That means washed and put away all my winter clothes and pulled out all the spring ones. We didn't practice Judaism at home when I was growing up so I've got a weird view about how to do all this stuff. I give away all the food that has not been opened to the food bank. The stuff that has been opened, like partial boxes of pasta, I give to a neighbor.

2. Phone call to my son. He's filing for divorce. I'm really upset but I have to stay out of it. I need to stay on good terms with both my son and my daughter-in-law. But he's really tired of working two jobs while she won't go to work. And I think her booking yet another vacation with the kids and not him just sort of sent him over the deep edge. She was also complaining that he won't give her extra money to spend when she flies down to Disney World with the three children. He did tell her to get a job for her pocket money but she did not take that well. (His version: she needs to get a PT job for pocket money. Her version: he got $2k inheritance and dn put it in the house account) I really have to stay completely out of this for the sake of my own sanity

3. So it's back to Round Valley for another hike. Getting out there really does clear out my brain

DW and I motored up to Santa Barbara for a very early dinner. We went through La Arcada to Anderson's Restaurant on State Street. After checking out the entire menu, we both ordered the Viking Feast. Unfortunately, we could not get a good picture of the listing, but here it is:
VIKING FEAST
Our own Pickled Herring, onions, capers, horseradish at side
Our chicken liver pate, pickled cucumbers, red cabbage
Smoked Scottish salmon, Havarti cheese, our famous dill sauce
All served on a plate
Pumpernickel and breads at side

It was all delicious, but neither of us could finish all of it, so we brought the remnants home along with pastries from their bakery.
Being Spring Break, there were lots of people around and campers along the beach. It was a beautiful day for a drive.
