What happened to AMEREN ILLIN 6.625% PFD today? Down almost 5%?

The question isnt why it dropped 5% today...The question is why did the fool who bought about 300 shares yesterday pay almost $28 and took the sucker ask price? $26.30-$27 is its normal range. We are talking about a past call issue that is considerably above par. So its just now back in its normal range...Until some impatient person again overpays and buys at sucker ask price again.

I've held KTP through the thick and thin! :) Cost of $19.11. Hoping it doesn't turn into another damn Toys R Us. Mulligan, start talking up JCP to the girlfriend. Get her to go spend your moolah there!

Well its under $16 now, so you should be tripling down on it, Moorebonds! Toys has been rumored on the brink of bankruptcy for quite a while. That is why I was never interested in the issue. Plus being a private company they are a bit quicker to yank into bankruptcy. Near term, I dont see any JCP stress. They dont need to roll over any big debt for quite a while. I will hold my measly 300 shares of JBR (or JBN, I forget which one it is now) and not be too stressed over it.

I hope that it wasn't anyone on here that paid up for it.

Wasn't me either. I was busy watching the Astros destroy the Red Sox. Of course, what they put on the Texas Rangers earlier this week was much more evil. ;)

So Im off to Vegas tomorrow. How much are you telling me to put down on the Houston’s finest to win the World Series?

They scored 47 runs in three games against the Rangers. Now are beating up the Red Sox. I wouldn't bet a nickle they get through the playoffs! :D

Keep in mind my sports betting record is well in favor of the Bookies and I have not retired on those skills.

Who does? Only liars do! I feeling the love for the Dallas Stars 97 over this year... Probably will be one of my features this NHL season.

Good point....Some people dont like call hassles. I dont get too worked up over them...Though I only have had one this year.
Any thoughts of trying JCP baby bonds again?

I am still holding one... sitting on a 12.5% cap loss on it... but am getting the divis.... the Toys R Us BK has me a bit worried, but I have read up a bit on that and it seems that it was in worse shape than JCP... and that JCP seems to be recovering.... they made a slight profit last year and might do that again... analysts seem to think 2018 will be better and 2019 even better....

Now, they could file on Monday.... but that is a risk you take...

I have used these on my flipping experiment... got hosed on it... but did hold to get back to even... (or close)...

Yep, I am still in Vegas. Very surreal to wake up in morning knowing you heard all the gun shots that killed 50 people. I never adjusted to west coast time so I was already asleep around 8. The extended gunfire woke me up and the ambulance and cop sirens shortly followed. I simply dismissed it as distant fireworks as it was so extended and ambulances and cop sirens are always active here. I knew about the concert as it was nearby as many country dressed people were here. A lot of stranded concert goers laying around casino here unable to get out of the area which is still secured.
I am at MGM and my room has direct view of Mandalay Bay. Dont know if I heard all the shots directly or if gun shot sounds ricocheted off Tropicana and bounced towards me.
Hard to process the terror and tragedy the people faced there at the concert.

Morning broke...Dear Lord, I can apparently see one of the shot out open windows from Mandalay Bay shot out from my room. It is matching the split screen view that was on Fox.

Came across two new issues that are right around par, for those looking for a little jucier yield to replace some redemptions:

GNL-A, a first preferred issue from Global Net Lease, 7 1/4% coupon and cumulative, picked up my standard 100 share initial position just under par. Like GMRE-A, it's a perpetual maturity, first callable in 2022.

GMRE-A, also the first preferred issue from Global Medical REIT, a 7 1/2% coupon, also cumulative. Perpetual maturity, first callable in 2022. Picked up 100 just a few pennies over par.

These parent companies don't have the largest diversification or security, or else they wouldn't be offering such high coupons (their common stocks are yielding about 8 1/2%-9 1/2%), but part of it is that they are smaller and it's their first trip to the preferred troughs. I was tempted to buy some common with the higher dividend yields, but opted for the preferred instead since I'm getting into some direct real estate investing in my taxable account and want some more 'relative' stability in income in my tax deferred accounts.

I wanted to see what was happening to XKE and it said it stopped trading or change tickers...

Anybody know which?

Just curious to see which way it is going...

When I log into my TDAmeritrade account, it still shows my position under XKE, but last trade data is as of 9/20. When I click on the link under my "positions" list, it shows me the company name, all info, etc. However, when I enter XKE into the general ameritrade page to get a stock quote, it comes up with nothing (i.e. no name, price, info - like the symbol never existed).

Because it's not worth the effort to call and sit on hold for 10 minutes to find out, I'll just let it join my few other zombie positions that are worthless, yet still appear in my account positions listing. If something somehow turns a corner and it becomes worth something someday, I'll update the symbol in my spreadsheets and have a glass of 3 Buck Chuck to celebrate (since I'm sure it won't be worth much more than a few hundred bucks, gotta keep my expense ratio low on my wine:investments ratio!)

Sold off my ATGFF for a nice quick 5% plus quick gain, and 2 monthly divis also... Wasnt entirely comfortable owning this...Did a high low pair trade today...Bought 300 more SPLP-A at 21.55 and bought 300 IPL-D at $24.96. I see great value in SPLP-A with the selling pressure from using it to close out the remaining 30% of HNH it didnt already own...SPLP using the A to buy out the remaining shares of companies it has controlling interest in. It may sag more as SPLP-A is generally sold not bought as it was never an IPO... But in 16 months you get a $25 cash put on 20% of your shares...A 13% return! And other 80% matures in 2026 for an almost 9% return holding until maturity. This is a nice little American conglomerate, not some island based shipper with similar yield. Web Bank is a nice little gem they own that isnt fully valued on their balance sheet. Something to consider...I bought the IPL-D to keep some money safe issues as I have drifted away a bit from some ute preferreds. Why pay $26 for that new Alabama Power issue when this one is really about as solid and yields more (though not eye popping at 5.11% lol) and under par now again.

Thanks for sharing and looks interesting. But is "16 months" a typo? Perhaps I'm wrong, but isn't the 20% repurchase within 3 years of after completion of offer, which was early 2017?

Thanks for the bailout, Bob, but I cant blame typo...Just stupidity...By February 2020 they must pro rata redeem 20% in cash. Dont know what possessed me as I knew it was 2020. They can do it earlier but I wouldnt hold my breath on that.

Hmm.. your % through first redemption seems right, or perhaps my calc is wrong. With redemption in 2020 I calculated at 13%+ return. So feel free to blame it on typo and not stupidity.

Like most things Bob I get it about half right and half wrong! :)... Outside of the K-1, this isnt a bad little issue. One gets decent returns to maturity and not stuck with a pure perpetual. And you get to take 20% off the table in a bit over 2 years while booking a decent profit.

No harm Mulligan. Agree with you, looks like a nice issue and appreciate you sharing. I've been looking at preferreds with a decent dividend with a reasonable risk, so I was doing due diligence and analysis and just wanted to confirm I wasn't looking at something wrong.

Bob the company started out as a private investment firm. Original founder is still the big chief. In 2008 when liquidity crisis occured and some partners were wanting out they created a holding company then a few years later established a trading ticker. Founder Lichtenstein is kind of referred to as a mini me Warren Buffet. Same type of model. He of course hasnt been as successful but the company keeps growing thru bolt on acquisitions and total buyout of companies. He likes to acquire some companies with huge NOLs so he can use to write off losses to save on taxes from profits of subsidiaries.

Kind of sneaky large...has 13400 employees and 115 plants and facilities throughout the world.
