What is the best large RV friendly route to the Fishing Bridge area in Yellowstone NP in the summer from Southern California?

Are you thinking of a quick trip with a direct route, or a long, slow meander?

(Mainly just bumping your post up on the main portal; otherwise can't help!)

Never been there. No RV. But, I’ve been using MS Bing AI lately. It seemed to be a perfect AI type question, so I asked MS Bing.

Lot of good references!

“The best route to the Fishing Bridge area in Yellowstone National Park from Southern California depends on your starting location and the size of your RV. Assuming you are starting from Los Angeles, the most direct route is to take I-15 North to I-90 East, then take US-89 South to the park¹. However, this route includes steep grades and winding roads that may not be suitable for large RVs. An alternative route is to take I-15 North to I-84 East, then take US-20 East to US-191 North, which will take you to the park's West Entrance¹. This route is longer but has fewer steep grades and winding roads, making it more suitable for large RVs¹.

Once you enter the park, you can take the Grand Loop Road to reach the Fishing Bridge area⁴. Please note that there is ongoing road construction in the Fishing Bridge area, which may cause delays¹². It is advisable to check the park's website for the latest road conditions and closures before you start your journey⁴.

I hope this information helps you plan your trip to Yellowstone National Park!

I think I'm looking for a direct route, but I plan to take about a week to get there from So. Cal.

I'd go through Jackson WY, and get a drive through Grand Teton NP along the way. No question.
Make that be your trip planning destination. Then cruise on up to Yellowstone.
Coming into Jackson from Idaho on 22 is a wicked hill but it is downhill coming that way.
You can also get to Jackson through Utah and Salt Lake City.
This will take you by several National Parks.
Personally, a full day at Bryce is enough unless you are an avid hiker.
If you are really taking a week that is how I would do it.
Las Vegas ---> some park in Utah----> Jackson---> Yellowstone.

We came from Reno and went through Jackson. We spent 4 days in Yellowstone and 2 days in the grand Tetons. Don’t be that close and miss the Tetons. It’s so nice to have a RV and stay in the park. It saves you a ton of time.

Wow - Reno to Jackson Hole - is that really 712 miles?

Even farther from Southern California. I guess I15 is most of it?

Interesting looking at routes. We’ve driven to Grand Teton NP from Central TX by car. I guess twice because another time we also visited Yellowstone. Also been nearby various routes by motorhome but never quite made it to either park.

Audrey, I don’t remember how far it was because we would take a month trip and usually drive 4K miles making a big loop visiting people and sightseeing along the way.

Yeah, when we were full time RVing we made huge cross country loops of 10K miles per year. It didn’t seem far when we had plenty of time to do it.

I was just surprised at the distance, but the American West is huge. As we should well know from our travels over many years.

We did go through Reno once. It was March to we came through AZ then up along the western edge of Nevada (after crossing the Hoover Dam) and spent a night in at an RV park in Reno before heading to Susanville CA where we pre-ordered and picked up some motorhome snow chains so we could legally drive into Oregon.

I would also recommend going through Grand Tetons. It is a spectacular park.
