We'll start with US and Canada and will add to the list as we get posts from our brothers and sisters in ER. Tip of the hat to SteveR and Dry Socks for the idea.

Re: In What Country do our ER Forum Members Live?

I never realized that Texas, Hawaii, and California are countries.

I would add Alaska and Utah to that list of "countries" too.  Logic:

Alaska and Hawaii are not connected to the rest of the country physically so they should be considered as countries.   ;)

Utah...well take my word for it....it is a different country.  :p

CA: Nothing need be said. 8)

Texas.........every live there?  If so, you know it is in a world of its own.  :D  The country of Tejas.

Re: In What Country do our ER Forum Members Live?

Make that the Republic of Texas .... Yee Haw!

I have to admit that initially I was a little irritated with you old REW buddy for overstepping your moderator privileges, but after about 10 minutes of deep breathing, 40 push-ups and punching a hole in the wall, I'm ok with it. Just don't let it happen again or I may have a stroke from the deep breathing, push-ups and punching. :-*

Better yet, if it does happen again, meet me on the battleground....and wear your kilt instead of your skirt. :dead:

I do what I can to promote the benefits of excercise and stress relief to members of the forum... ;)

A guy named Dan Tien probably shouldn't feel the need to punch any walls. ;)

Mike - I did kind of make it sound like I got un-Hara 'd, eh?
Don't tell REW, but I'm not capable of any pushups over 10, let alone any punching besides the gas-pedal ala Steve McQueen. I do breathing pretty well though :)

When I lived/worked in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan there was talk
of us splitting off as the great state of "Superior". I thought it was a
fine idea.

Re: In What Country do our ER Forum Members Live?

Well, I put U.S., but of course, t'is the Republic of Texas. I wasn't born here, but I got here as fast as I could. :)

Re: In What Country do our ER Forum Members Live?

Texas as you should know was a republic for 10 years before joining the union. Some interesting residual political distinctions remain.
Texas still has the right to divide into up to 4 states and the Texas Rangers is an additional layer of law enforcement unique in the U.S.A.. The state police are known as the DPS (Department of Public Safety). The Texas Rangers are the vestiges of the army of the Republic of Texas.
The navy of the Republic of Texas has a modern presence also.
Texas would have certainly reverted to a republic if the 'war etween the states' had been won.

Texas was turned down by both Mexico and the US several times in their requests to be annexed. I'm not sure why the US finally made the mistake and accepted them.

US History would have been so different without Texas.

For one thing, we'd have run out of oil a whole lot sooner.

When our "differences" with Mexico were finally wrapped up
(1848) we got 500,000 square miles of land, including
California, Nevada, Utah, most of New Mexico and Arizona, and parts of Wyoming and Colorado, as well as Texas. In return, we paid Mexico #18.25 million (this was after we beat the snot out
of them in The Mexican War). A pretty good deal for us :)
