Thanks for posting. Nothing like visiting a national cemetery to put Memorial Day in perspective. I visited Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on Friday when the volunteers put flags on all of the graves. Here's a photo from there.

Today's Washington Post has a very moving article about how Dutch families have adopted each grave in the American military cemetery in Margraten, Netherlands.

Americans gave their lives to defeat the Nazis. The Dutch have never forgotten. - The Washington Post

Yes, I've always been impressed at how well the Belgians care for Allied graves. If you visit places like Ieper (Ypres) or Bastogne, you can be overwhelmed.

I once got the response "You have no idea how grateful we are that we're not speaking German today."

I pulled over this morning to listen to an interview with the author of "We've Never Been the Same," about Delta Company in Viet Nam ( We’ve Never Been The Same: A War Story | Transom --a link to the radio program is in this story). To say it was very moving is not enough to give it justice.
