I was thinking about this today and wouldn't it be neat to set up some kind of FIRE target club based on your FIRE target date. In my case my goal is to be retired in 10 years from now. If there are others in the same boat (say 8-12 years) it would be neat to update this thread once in awhile and hopefully in 10 years we can look back and update it with our success stories. Who else is in?

Accountingsucks - Dec 31, 2020 target.

Sure.... why not... Dec 31, 2020 it is....

I'll join as long as you don't charge membership fees :)

My "planets align" goal (and the market treats me very well) is Dec. 31, 2020. But I think it will be more like Dec. 31, 2022-2024)

I don't think I want to wait that long. Original plan was 2012, now it's 2017.

Best of luck to you!

Never really thought about an actual date but 2020 seems about right

Currently thinking 2025. But wouldn't mind being early.

My tentative target date is May 2013. OK, everyone—
Ready.....
Aim......
FIRE!!

I'll only be 41 at the end of 2020 so it's a lofty goal but i'm in.

I'm in- official date is 2019, but I'd jump on an early out anytime after 2014.

Target date: August 1, 2017

How's that for nailin' it down?

No definite date planned but I'm hoping late in this decade pending resolution of other household employment situations.

In 2017 I hit the 20 year mark with the military. I'm pretty sure I'll be done with it NLT 2020, so that is the goal: no work beyond then:cool:

As handle indicates, 2019 was original target. Maybe revise to 2020 per Mr Market (and that's probably optimistic)

Barring unforeseen circumstance, I've resigned (no pun intended) myself to working until I'm 62, which will be 2016. But 2013 is within the realm of possibility... :p

I'm thinking 2024 for me, but 2020 would be nice if things work out.

September 1, 2016 for us. DH will be 51, I'll be 55 + 1 day

As early as May 2012 but no later than October 2015. We'll see...

How much longer will the Hawkeye airframe be hanging around?
E-2C is just beginning to go away. Grumman has begun delivering the D model from the factory in St Augustine. I think the opeval is next year or in '12. By 2021 all the C models in the USN will be done, except for the reserves. From the outside, the C and D look the same.

That's impressive longevity. I figured it'd be going the way of the P-3 any day now...

Interesting.

Wikipedia says the E-2 was designed in the late 50's and early 60's. The original E-2's were replaced with E-2Bs, E-2Cs and, as HawkeyeNFO said, are being replaced with newly-manufactured E-2D models.

Contrast that with the Air Force B-52 and KC-135 fleet. Designed in the late 1940's and early 1950's, the "newest" B-52s and KC-135s were delivered to the AF in 1962 and 1965 respectively.

All of them are older than the aircrews flying them - some are as old as their grandparents.

Damn Navy...
