Textbooks...donated to the public library
Published papers....shredded
Business card...kept exactly 1 copy for posterity
Diploma...in a frame but not displayed on any wall
Awards, training certificates and college transcripts...in the records file
Nameplate in a triangular wooden base...still have it
Invention records and patent awards...in the records file
Necessary personnel records for proof of employment and benefits...fully intact in the records file. I cannot apply for my deferred FERS retirement (MRA+10) for another 2 years.

Got retirement plaque from last job, and from the one gubment job I lost due to politics. Some framed photos, and somehow an envelope with one business card from each of the 8 jobs I had professionally. Could easily toss it all, but not my framed and glassed in oak box that displays my grandfather's, my dad's, and my slide rules. Guess I have to figure out whether my son or daughter (engineers) inherit that!

Since I have now decided I'll not work again, there's a lot of junk I need to go through to just plain declutter...work and otherwise.

All I saved was my pocket protector and my ID badge, which still gets me discounts.

Yeah, lots of work stuff - for both DH and I. Noticed how much since DH and I moved recently. Working on consolidating it into one big box. Awards, business cards, official ID cards, etc, etc, etc.

Easy to put it all into a box. Not so easy to get it out of my mind. Still dream about work stuff pretty frequently! Man, what's wrong with me?

Technically, even though I'm not yet retired, I couldn't take anything that wasn't already mine. I work for the State so all the stuff that belongs to work, stays at work. Fine with me, I don't want any of it anyway! Being "from" work but something of mine that I took there, such as my diplomas, shouldn't stay there anyway.

I'm still trying to understand my feelings today. I was kind of pissed but not certain at who or why. I think it may be at me because I hit a new level of understanding that I REALLY DON'T CARE ANYMORE and I should leave for that reason alone. On the other hand, I kind of feel like I've been dumped on the past five years +/- so I'll just keep on riding along for another 10 mos or so until I'm ready to do it on my terms.

I had a big "purge" before I moved to my retirement destination. Although I saved sentimental stuff like my children's artwork, I did not feel sentimental about work so whatever had any value went to the thrift store along with a bazillion other "things" I was storing in my home. It felt great to move with only what I needed or loved.

Could be the 100+ degree heat....:dead:

The only thing I saved from work was some of the money I earned so I could get the heck outta there. Oh yeah, I did keep one suit so DW will have something to send me off in.

When I pulled the plug at w*rk, I left everything there. I either passed the stuff down to the poor saps that I left behind, or else I tossed it into the dumpster. I had absolutely no desire to keep any 'souvenirs'. The past is past, and I didn't want anything to hold me there. I have no regrets about that decision either! It was only a job......it wasn't my life! :)

I admire your spirit! Know I'm way too much mired in the past. You've got it right Goonie.

I still have some of my books.
I have the source code for the products, hoping to work on improving and adding features on the products which I also have.
I have a scope that I bought from the company just after I left.
I kept them just in case I get bored. A year and a half after retirement, I have not touched any of them and don't expect to touch them in the near future.

I forgot about a few items I kept from work over the years. Those included my evaluations and some old business cards such as those from when my company was located in the World Trade Center, something which has more than sentimental value. I also kept a copy of my most prized item - my letter of resignation - and another prized item, my last train ticket which the conductor did not collect (thankfully). I wrote the date on it and a note.

I'm not even retired yet and have already thrown away every sales award I had received from megacorp. They were big clunky crystal thingamajigs that no longer had meaning to me so i took pics of them for posterity and tossed them in the trash. It was incredibly freeing to throw them away because those 10 years were some of the most stressful of my life.

I have a voluminous collection of things from mega corp that I thought would be useful someday. To have any hope of downsizing, I am starting to purge the paper collection from my man cave, but will probably keep various awards, photos, and a few other items.

I still have some award plaques, books, a few coffee cups and stuff like that. Some I'll probably keep but most will find their way to the trash in the next few years.

Last winter I gave my last (favorite) sliderule to my son. He gave a chuckle.

Still have my Keuffel & Esser mahogony slide rule sitting in drawer. Not sure I can remember how to use it though:D. That and a few old HP calculators may find their way onto ebay.

My dad tried to give me his slide rules - I refused. I did help him list them as a lot on ebay.

I still have my badge. My boss convinced me to take a leave of absence rather than retire even though I told her I was done . I also have a few pairs of scrubs in case I need a quick costume.

I voted "no" but today I remembered one treasured possession from work - my monthly pension hit the bank account

... I couldn't take anything that wasn't already mine.....

Good point. I have style manuals, dictionaries, English usage books, and yes, even grammar books, that I owned, and I still have these (and occasionally refer to them). I kept xeroxes of anything that thanked me and still have these copies in a file. I think I brought home my business cards that I guess technically weren't mine, but who'd want them? Not even I, as I tossed them after realizing they really were too small to use for jotting down notes. But otherwise I didn't take anything that wasn't already mine (gargoyle statue, statue of Homer Simpson, etc.).

DH brought home his name plate from his desk, and his files of things he was proud of.

Geez it's good to be done with that!

Still have loads of vendor logo shirts (some almost new) and vendor logo trinkets like clocks, calculators, pen & pencil sets. Many from companies not even in business anymore like MCI, Timeplex, T-Bar, DEC, General Datacom the list goes on.

I still have a bunch of vendor logo trinkets, mega-corp logo trinkets, mega-corp stuff like a 20-year service watch as well as the 'personal' contents of my desk (which have been in a box in the garage for 5 years, can't be bothered to throw it out).

DH is still wearing vendor t-shirts from the 1990s. The shirts lasted way longer than the companies did.
