What did you do today? 2016 version

Learned a valuable lesson today.

I got one of those free range, organic fresh turkeys from D'Artagnan because I just had to see if it was as good as advertised. Cooked it perfectly (rotisserie on the BGE), and it was wonderful.

But nowhere near better enough to justify the price differential from a local supermarket turkey.

Still, I had to know, and now I do.

I've found the same to be the case with any high end meat I've tried through mail order. It was never bad but never good enough to justify the high price.

Went to Target and decided to get flu shot for me and DW. Insurance paid 100% and we each got a $ 5.00 gift card for taking the shots there. Not a bad trade!

Well I started the day visiting my daughter and her family, then drove home in time to die a thousand deaths watching the Ohio State-Michigan game. Happy for the outcome, though.

Go Bucks!!

Assisted DH in various tasks around the house. Holiday lights are up outside. Heater filter is cleaned and replaced. (Finally getting cold enough for the heater and big storm due tonight.) Oven is cleaned. (Not a self cleaning oven - so it was a project.)

I started to think the same of expensive XO cognac vs. the lower grade cognac and brandy. The difference is that I used to be able to tell the difference, and just as importantly, to care.

Now, I can more afford the "good" stuff, but I don't really care that much anymore. In a way, that's a bit sad.

I suspect that may be true generally, but I can think of an exception.

Every one of the (all too few) times I've had real Kobe beef steak, I've felt it was so good as to warrant the price.

Scared the crap out of me and one other person!

Went to a store in a strip mall that I'd parked right in front of. When I came out I opened the door to my black GMC Sierra and there was someone sitting in the passenger seat. Wasn't anyone in there a minute before! I slammed the door shut and immediately opened it again, like somehow the person would disappear, they didn't. Then I realized my black GMC Sierra was two spaces over.:)

Cut up some aluminum angle and bar pieces to level out the base for my wood stove insert install. Got all the bricks in nice and secure, cemented the hearth bricks and tomorrow will cut and bend the 20g sheet metal pan that will cover the bricks and let the thing just "slide on in"

Worked on the Fillmore & Western tourist RR. We took passengers to a Xmas tree farm where they selected their trees. The trees were loaded on a flatcar and delivered to them at the end of the train ride.

Watching the snow. Glad we picked up some boots for DW.:)

Put snow blade weights and chains on the JD garden tractor today. Maybe we won't get any snow this winter now that I did all this work. Doubt if we are that lucky.

How did the passenger react. I have to admit - I'm cracking up over this story.

He was as shocked by the situation as I was. At the end I heard laughter.

Today was spent trimming some of the trees in our yard. Every few years, the Bradford pears get a sever haircut--today was the day for half of our trees. DH ran the chainsaw, I had the pole pruner and lopers. The yard waste site does not open until Thursday, so we just made several piles of branches that we will load into the pickup then. It looks like we will need 4-5 trips.

After cleaning up, we went to the neighborhood bar for the cheesesteak special ($3.99 on Monday). Now home to watch the Eagles, but I don't know if I'll stay awake for the entire game. All that physical activity out in the cool weather made me feel tired.

Thanks for sharing this. I got a good laugh out of it :)

I got the best pre Black Friday deal . I bought a Samsung 10" tablet for my SO. It was already $100 off then they gave me another 10% and a $20 gift card . Today they sent me an email they might have advertised it wrong so they were sending me a $50 gift card . Total price $110.

Just ordered $100 worth of chocolate for the young wife.

Cut my sheet metal by scoring with the Dremel and bending until it broke. Sanded off the rust from my brake and bolted it to a 2x4. Clamped the 2x4 to my deck bench and bent 2 good lips on my sheet.

They look good and they fit over the bricks, so they are "good"

Tomorrow I secure the stove to the dolly and roll it into the house

Winterized my motorhome today. Just got back from a long approx 3000 miles trip to visit relatives for Thanksgiving and some vacation time before the holiday; was away from home 17 days. Got home late Sun afternoon and did not unload much. Woke up today to dusting of snow, and a mean cold front coming in so the winterizing was definitely needed today. Finished taking out all the stuff from MH that needs to be above freezing, along with the recent trip clothes, food and other supplies.

Winterizing is basically drain all the water lines, blow them out with air to ensure they don't have much residual moisture, and then put some RV antifreeze in the traps and into the holding tanks.

Many years ago I walked out of the bank and put my key in the car door. Couldn't get the key to work. Took it out and gave it a good look. Was it the wrong key? Was it bent? Try it again.

Nope it was the wrong car, my identical light blue Camry was one row over! I looked around and nobody saw any of this so I had a good chuckle all to myself.

I rented a car to drive during a vacation. On the way, we stopped at an outlet mall, and I bought a pair of sneakers. While my wife continued shopping, I thought I should put this back in the car instead of carrying it around.

Walking across the parking lot towards the rental car, I saw that its rear trunk lid was slightly open. What the heck, how did that happen? I proceeded to put my purchase in the trunk, then closed the lid. That was when I realized it was not my rental car. Both cars were black sedans, and mine was parked two cars over! They were not identical but similar in size, and as it was a rental car I did not recognize mine right away.

DARN!!! Now, how am I going to get my purchase back out? Do I write it off as a gift to the unknown driver of that car?

I decided to hang around to wait for the car driver to return, cursing myself the entire 30 minutes during that wait. Yes, I got my sneakers back.

Many years ago, before DW, I had a date to play tennis. We finished our game and both went to our respective restrooms. I then went and got in my car to wait for my date. I then looked to my right and two cars over, my date was sitting in the passenger seat of a car that was very similar to mine. I decided to just sit there and wait and see how long it took her to figure out that she was in the wrong car. A minute or so later she looks to her left through both car windows sees me sitting there and I wave to her with a smile! The surprised expression on her face was priceless. We both had a good laugh about it.

My DS has a purse the size of a small house, she carries everything inside it. We were at a small restaurant in Springdale UT and she put her purse in the trunk of our rental car.

My DH put the car fob in his back pocket. sat down and apparently triggered the trunk release. When we walked out and my sis saw the open trunk she literally fell to the ground and screamed "my purse". The purse was untouched....sister then said "if I lost my purse I'd have to kill myself" I think it was tongue-in-cheek, but maybe not....

Angel Flight

Flew a patient I had flown before from Santa Monica to Santa Barbara. Only problem was getting out of my home airport with the Santa Ana winds blowing and gusting to 20 knots.
This was my 20th mission this year, with one more scheduled.
