Yep, that's precisely what is happening to me. 40 years of old fillings, crowns, etc going to hell. I've elected to get all the work done this year and that includes many new porcelain crowns since some of the old teeth were just worn out. I just budgeted the same as if I were to buy a new pickup truck.
I believe W2R is going through the same exercise.
Yep, I sure am. I just hope that once I get the worst of them replaced with implants (in my case), the dental work will lessen considerably for my remaining years of life. I think that is how it's supposed to work.
I have had four implants, a bridge, 2-3 root canals, five crowns, and some cavities filled in the past couple of years, and soon I'll be having another root canal done on a tooth that will probably end up being replaced with my fifth implant.
Now some of the younger members here may not be saddled with the older style work that apparently has a finite lifetime and starts coming apart when you least expected it to.
I would imagine that whatever they are having done, will have a finite lifetime also no matter what they are being told right now. Life is never fair, even for younger people (despite the fact that sometimes it seems like they get all the breaks).
That said, my dentist told me back in 1975 that the solid gold crowns he was putting on my back molars would last as long as 15-20 years. They are only now starting to be a problem, 42 years later. So, one can luck out once in a while. BTW this was sort of a backwoods dentist in a small Mississippi town, so one never knows. He did a great job.
Oh, Medicare doesn't cover any of the dental work, except under certain circumstances.
And it's not cheap. I am so glad that I have a lot of slack in my budget so that I don't have to worry about the cost of fixing my teeth.
