What did you do today? 2017 version

A quick bit of beekeeping this morning (checking a couple nucs that are getting sold this weekend and mite treatments for two of my biggest production hives), then off to the dentist for x-rays, cleaning and checkup. Happily I got a clean bill of health this time.

Inhaled a quick lunch and then culled and processed 9 quail roosters that are surplus to current requirements. Nothing I much enjoy doing, but part of the deal. Got 3 propane tanks refilled and then had a call with my buddy about the opening at his firm. Now watching DD1 practice figure skating while working on a resume update.

My husband turned 62 on Sunday. Today we celebrated in Epcot and Hollywood Studios and at the Boardwalk.

I was out of town over the weekend, and received a notice from the mortgage company that they were cancelling my auto draft of the monthly mtg payment. That means only one thing, the balance in the escrow is sufficient to cover the remaining balance (turns out the final payment was $58.63!). I AM MORTGAGE FREE!!!:dance::dance::dance:

Congrats to you!

We spent almost an hour in the gym, lifting weights. I actually upped a couple of machines by 10 pounds for my sets. See if I can continue.

DW and I walked down to the mailbox, a little over a mile. It's getting colder or I may have walked more.

Later we had coffee and watched four mule deer grazing in a neighbor's yard. They're especially beautiful munching on other's yards.

Two people crawled under the house and replaced the 50 y o collapsed duct work.

Put the chains and snow plow back on the truck in preparation for a possible foot or more snow tomorrow. I guess it is obvious I don't live in Florida. :)

Glad you got your AC sorted out Khan!

I spent yesterday schlepping kids around. Kids got out of school early - I took them down to a senior community (where my step mom lives) for their volunteering. (They provide tech support for phones, tablets, pc's to the residents.) Then it was back to school for a "festival" - with a quick stop at a taco stand to get dinner on the way. Finally got home 9 hours after I left to start this.

Today is much more mellow. I walked the dog on the beach then did my aquatic fitness class (aka geezer water aerobics)... Now I'm surfing here... Today the kid pickup is straightforward - get them from school and bring them home.

Today:

7 am - walked the pooch.

7:30 am - ROMEO meeting at Burger King

9:30 am - walked the pooch again

10:00 am - took DW to Denny's for late breakfast

11:00 am - took DW to her bone doctor's appointment

12 noon - DW is napping with pooch, I am preparing for my mid day walk.

2:00 pm - made Dr appointment for my screwed up right knee.

to be continued...:)

I got called in to guide a river trip when one of the scheduled guides called in sick. That's one of the benefits of living very near the rafting center. The manager knows I'm close so can get there more quickly than others. It was a small trip, no "problem" guests, and gorgeous weather. It was almost like stealing to get paid today, except that it makes up for the days when we have a trip from h*ll

My husband and I went to eat then stopped by a fabric to get samples of material for our curtain. This has to be done before we order our indoor furniture from a Pottery Batn. I have a 20% coupon and I'm waiting for my American Express credit card before I put the order. This will give me 80,000 miles on Singapore Airline. Killing two birds with one stone.

Walked the dogs and got beans on to cook, then went to the shooting range to try out my new elk rifle in .30-06. I do not normally shoot a cannon like this for fun, so it was an experience. The rifle turned out not to like the particular brand of shells I picked at random to sight in and I had shot almost an entire box of 180 grain full house loads before I realized it. The other two types I had on hand shot tiny groups after being all over the paper with the first type.

Came home to meet DW's cousin who is in town and will shortly be taking DD2 to horseback riding lessons.

Bizarrely, yet another job is being pitched to me. That is 3 inside a week or so. Did someone flip a switch on the labor market?

The word must be getting out! It's got to be pretty nice to have three to look at. Good luck and I hope you find one that you might want.

Went out to pick up some prescriptions, then on to the workout at the gym with DW, who has been recovering from a bad cold for the last two weeks. Then on to a Logan's Roadhouse restaurant with a coupon for 25% off. The food & service was good but we don't go there often because it's noisy. From there on to home.

Bike ride first thing this morning, then breakfast and some reading. Ran out to get DW's meds, hit the library and got a bite of lunch. Home this afternoon for some more reading, started a batch of hard cider, played the harpsichord for a little while and then prepped all the ingredients for dinner. Now waiting for DW to get home from w*rk so that I can start cooking. I'm sure we'll end the day by watching part of the Cubs game tonight.

Went for a walk around this small town in the Luberon area of France, then came back to have lunch on the terrace of this apartment which overlooks a major street along the Sorgue River. Life is so good it makes me almost cry of happiness. The host left us a bottle of rosé wine of this area, and it was wonderful.

The temperature is 80F, and the Provençal sun can be as intense as that in the USA Southwest. I will rest a bit, before leading my travel companions out to a neighbor town to shop for grocery for dinner. May have to delay it if I keep hitting that bottle of Cognac. I know, I know, it should be saved for dinner. I should look for a bottle of pastis, which is more of a midday drink.

Last night went tout to celebrate my birthday. Beautiful place overlooking the Pacific. We were supposed to have a table next to the window, but they booked a very large and very noisy party.
It sounded more like a sports bar than a restaurant.
We were sat in another section where we could see the water, but there was a wall between us so it cut the noise down.
They were out of the 10 oz lobster tails, but substituted 2 6 oz tails. All in all, it was a pleasant experience.
Next year will be a decade birthday, and I want to leave it somewhere else, like I did with my 50th.

Recovering from our little dog's close encounter of the skunk kind last night:

IMG_7390.jpg

I let him out into the fenced backyard about 9:45 as normal and settled down with my knitting in front of the TV. About 15 minutes later, he's jumping at the back door and we notice an odd odor. Sure enough, he'd been skunked. Must have been a baby because the odor was only unpleasant, not unbearable. After a bath, he stayed shaking in a beach towel on my lap until well after midnight. Finally got him settled enough so we could both go to bed. Put the towel and all my clothes in the washer first, though.

He slept much later than usual but fortunately seems none the worse for wear this morning - we took our normal 2 mile walk and he tried to chase squirrels the whole way. But when we walked back into the house, the skunk smell is unmistakeable. I've tried burning a couple of different scented candles, but it's still a little funky.

Definitely could have been much worse. I think I'll be supervising his after-dark excursions for a few weeks, though.

Yeah it could have been worse. Our little guy went out one night to do his thing and didn't come back for an hour. Finally wandered in, bloody and limping. Seems he decided to go head to head with a raccoon and got his little butt kicked. Had to spend a couple of days at the vet after that little skirmish.

It's a beautiful day in SoCal, finally. I went to get my belated Mother's Day gift to myself, a nice 2-hour massage. I left knee feels better, I have been unable to walk straight on that knee for some unexplained reason.

I turn on the flood lights and take a good look before I let fido out at night. The though of a skunk encounter is always on my mind.

I do the same, largely because of the local raccoons. I have no doubt that the 50+ pound Plott hound would win a fight with a raccoon, but the beagle would probably struggle and in any case I do not want to deal with the vet bills.

Picked some of the rhubarb yesterday before the storm started, so I made strawberry rhubarb jam this morning. Spent most of the rest of the day figuring out how to turn out a box of 38 special rounds which I will test out as soon as I get the chance to hit the range. Pizza night tonight, so will soon be working on making dough.

Took my kids back and forth to the bus stop, donated some clothes, 2 loads of laundry, washed the car, cooked dinner, drank a couple beers at the end of a hot afternoon.

Liking my life right now :)
