Sports car?

While if there is a race to lowest horsepower I'll enter my old, long-departed, Morris Minor woodie wagon. 948cc/37hp per spec but given the blue cloud that followed me everywhere I doubt that I was benefiting from all 37 ponies.

My daydream back then was to get a damaged Lotus Plus 2, shorten the backbone chassis by 8" to match the wheelbase, and put the woodie bodywork on it. A Cosworth BDA twin cam at a couple hundred horsepower topped off the daydream. It would have been a killer autocross car!

My current toy vehicle is a 3-wheeled Cushman Truckster (ex Meter Maid). 18HP (same as my lawn tractor) with a top speed of 39MPH. Do I win?

Had a 2008 Miata. Flawless little 2 seater. DW was not comfy in such a low, small car. I recently sold it to a retired couple who will enjoy it together.

Easy come - easy go!

Did you buy a fancy sports car when you retired?

No.

For me, cars are just 4-wheeled transportation - not treats, not toys, not status symbols.

When my current car dies (hopefully years down the line), I'll get another basic car.

I would be a lot better off (financially) if I had felt that way over the years, but alas, I'm a bonafide car nut.

Besides the Boss 302 I have now, I have owned at one time or another:

1988 911
1969 GTO Judge 455 HO
1968 GTO 389 Tri-Power
1969 Mach 1 351W (totalled)
1970 Mach 1 351C
1969 Z28 (302)

I won't go through the list of "grocery getters" that i bought the wife.

Oh well, I've enjoyed them.

My hat off to you sir!. I don't know the collective cost of all those cars but from this side of the pond it looks like a million dollars plus. And able to ER on top of that! well done!

My son just bought a Porsche convertible a few months ago.. He doesn't tell me what kind of car it was he just mentions in passing they they got another car for the summer. Its late i look out the window and i see a car. I tell him best of luck. When they leave i go out to throw in some good luck change. I see its a convertible and its says Porsche. I tell him whoa why didn't you tell me you got a sports car and its a convertible. He tells me pop i know how you are, i didn't want you to get too excited. I threw in the change and ran inside to brag to the bride. I see him a few weeks ago and he takes me for a ride, hahahahaha, we almost needed the fire department to get me out. Are they kidding me? I banged my head getting in, and getting out was like an act of congress. Never again, im surprised i didn't bust his seat.

It's getting so DW and I struggle getting out of (and even into) a lot of "regular" cars. We both love our CRV because it's NOT difficult for ingress and egress. Alas, "sports car" is not a phrase you use in the same sentence with CRV. YMMV

I just bought a 2017 Miata GT, soul red and have had alot of fun with it. I have raced spec miata for the last 15 years but have never had a street miata, or a convertible period. I have had 5 vettes (including linginfelter), several porsches (gt3, turbo ruf modified), M3, but find the miata alot of fun on the street. So small, fun with the top down, easy to park and handles great.

I forgot:

2010 Porsche Cayman. Sold to get the Boss 302!

My nice cars over the years , Nothing really real collectable but still nice cars . I will give cost when I bought and I will guess what they would be worth today .

1966 Mercury comet ( 289) 280.00 /10000
1966 Barracuda (318 ) 600.00 / 15,000
1968 Roadrunner (383 ) 800.00 / 25000.00
1971 Dodge Challenger / 340 2400.00 / 25000.00
1964 Triumph TR 4 800.00 / 15000.00
Bradley GT ( Junk yech ) 1600.00 / 000000000
1968 Triumph Spitfire 1800.00 / 6000.00
1974 Porsche 914 ( VW) 250.00 / Sold for 2400/ rusted out
Datsun 260 Z 1300.00 / 10,000.00

Now I drive a Honda Ridgeline and DW drives an Optima . We both ride motorcycles ( Yamaha FZ6 and Ninja 300 )

Kind of a joke on the Porsche I always wanted a Porsche and I figured I could work on a 914 . I put a word out to all my buddies to look for one and let me know . They found one in a field in Houston , it took me three months to find out who owned it . I called the guy and he said the engine was locked up ..to me again a VW engine . He owned a wrecker service and said I could have it for the wrecker fees . Bought it and found out all it needed to run was a battery and voltage reg. Buttttttt the rust underneath was real bad . I bought for 250.00 sold for 2400.00 within 6 mos.

I bought a 2016.5 Polaris Slingshot a year before I retired. Love driving this thing. Getting ready to haul it down to the Smoky Mountains to drive it on the Dragon's Tail.

Didn't know that car - reminded me of the Ariel Atom at first but it seems they differ alot.

I think that slingshot will go about 170. A question I have heard that the exhaust , the way it is ran fries your feet and legs ?

I think that slingshot will go about 170.

Nothing personal, but that's INSANE! Reminds me of a buddy who raced his '68 Vette (350/350) in ET bracket at US30 - and almost lost to a go-kart.

I sold my 72 and 73 911's to justify buying my plane. But I kept the wife's Boxster. It was her daily driver for years , but decided it was time for a 4'door. The Boxster has been a good car and I drive it daily. It's my golf coarse and airport car.

Plane is more fun than a sports car on crowded roads these days. See my avatar. No speed limits, 200 mph+ on the deck with only 180hp and rated to 6 G's.
