Whenever I travel it always feels so good to get back home, doesn’t matter if it’s s weekend getaway or a long trip, it just feels good sleeping in my own bed, taking a shower in my shower, using my toilet and cooking my own food, am I alone with this feeling?

I think this may be a Texas thing. We feel the same way when we are back from any trip.

Not just Texas! I love my home and always feel a little sad pulling out of the driveway and heading to the airport. My most recent trip was to India and Nepal and I was gone for 3 weeks. It made sense; once you've crossed that many time zones you may as well stay awhile, and every day there was something new and interesting, but I think that's the longest I ever want to be away from home. Near the end I was really counting the days till I could sleep in my own bed.

Coming home to lush green forest in NJ always feels good. There is something sweet about sleeping on your own mattress. We're fortunate to live in a nice neighborhood, and have plenty of woods to walk through. Still, we wouldn't mind another 3-week excursion to a far-off land.

Same. I enjoy trips to my condo at the beach, but returning to the comfort of my home is always nice.

Do you remember the advertising tag line that was around a few years ago (Expedia, maybe)? It asked the question, "Do you need a vacation from your vacation?" and I often answered in the affirmative.

I don't really enjoy travelling too much (I think the AF ruined that for me) these days and am quite happy lounging around my home. Shoot, I have done a lot to make it the most perfect a home can be, so no real need to leave.

Nonetheless, I still enjoy experiencing new cultures, foods, sights, etc. so we do still travel. We just try to make it as painless as possible.

Mixed. We are always glad to get home to familiar surroundings. DW only likes to be away for a max. of two months. I would OK with four-five. So we compromise. It is mostly about catching up with children and grandchildren even thought they are now in different cities. Traveling can be challenging if you, like us, do primarily independent travel. So it good to get a break, come home, relax, etc.

Heavens yes. Especially getting home from tours, where you are always having to go somewhere with a group, on group terms, and group schedule. Tours are good for us in many ways, but in many other ways they feel like work.

Yes I get that feeling even in our snowbird condo. In March, we went to The Copper Canyon for 8 days. Returning to the familiar always feels good. In October, we are headed to San Miguel de Allende for 2 weeks before getting to the condo.

In September, I am camping with the kids in Toronto for 10 days (actually max 3 days each then friends' place for 2 days and airbnb for the rest.). Will welcome getting home.

We live in Africa working oilpatch 10 months per year for the last near to 16 year. We are now at 7 months since being to Texas the last time.

It such a wonderful feeling to get back the USA and to Texas. The bright vibrant blue skys and colors of Texas is different from the Tropical Delta Region of Nigeria.

Living in Africa and seeing what we see, extreme poverty, corruption, etc. Life is cheap here and what happens never makes the news back home.

Ms. gamboolgal I hope to retire end of next year to Texas and I imagine that we will not never get another GD stamp in our passports for the rest of our lives.

When I'm not chasing Ms. gamboolgal around the house nekid, we'll be cooking out on the Patio and wearing our fancy BBQ guns.

We'll leave be the glamorous international travel for those that enjoy.

We have spent four winters in Thailand. This past year we did a side trip to the Philippines. We returned to our favourite spot in Thailand earlier than planned. We both felt so good when the plane landed. It was the same feeling we get we we return home after an extended period away.

I don't think that you are alone at all. I remember even as a child, my mother used to take me to Greece most summers. Even though I enjoyed Greece, I really loved to get back home. I still get that feeling.

Not particularly. It really depends on the weather at home.

Although it sure is nice to get back to my own bed.

But I’m usually thinking about where can we go next!

Come to think of it, I usually have that “it’s so nice to be traveling again” feeling.

I love to get home after being gone. A month is the most for me if we take the dogs and 2 weeks if we don’t.

I am a recluse by nature and prefer a quiet / simple life. Home is wonderful. All 4 seasons and 300 days of sunshine a year.

I'm a home boy and I always like going home.

I love being at home, either our PA home or our Florida condo. I’m very comfortable either place. I’m getting tired with other travel, but will continue to see DS, DDIL and DGS just outside of Seattle. We’ll still cruise too, but I’m not sure if we’ll do a big three week trip like last summer. Getting back home is always good!

The longest trip we took was a 32 day cruise. It felt really good to sleep in our own bed again.
DW has a saying," East, West, home is best:)

To me it feels so good to be home, that I don't have the slightest desire to travel in the first place! So I don't. Here at home I have everything I could possibly want. Everything is exactly the way I want it, and I get to sleep in my own bed.

Me too. Like you I have done more than enough international travel and I am DONE traveling, period, probably for many of the same reasons. I love being here at home.

Just got back with the family from a long trip to NYC. Three of my old friends and my sister own waterfront Mansions (10,000 + square feet) and two of them own multiple Mansions. While the Mansions are all stunning and my Wife and Kids enjoyed the lifestyle ( i found it to be a bit nerve racking with all the antiques), I did not feel comfortable except outside by the pool and ponds and even though we were 45 mins from NYC it felt like we were far away from civilization. Great to be back in our little apartment with all of Lima outside my door.

We went on our first cruise ever, and it may be our last. There were fun things about the cruise, but they were awfully common-denominator ("formal night," shows, etc.) and we were mostly bored. The gym was too small and crowded. Food was very good, but too many people were there eating it with us, etc. and food/drink are not the be-all end-all for us.

We have come home in mid March after a two or three month trip to warmer climates only to find cold weather, lots of snow.

It would have taken zero persuading to get us head out again.

We love to leave and love to be back home. Always.
I think we have the best of it.

Yes, planning and going on new trips is very exciting but the anticipation of getting back home is usually agonizing. Even on our trip to Hawaii earlier this year we were getting a bit bored with it all, I’m in Vietnam right now, it’s only been 8 days so far but I’m actually fed up with the humidity and traffic of Ho Chi Minh, I’m counting the days to get on the airplane and get out of here. These people literally do not stop honking their horns, it’s 4am laying in bed at the hotel and I hear nothing but honking horns, all night long, don’t think I’ll ever be coming back.

Landing back at LAX, driving through the smog and dense traffic, I can't help but take a deep breath, glad to be home.
