What did you do today? 2018 version

Flu shot and pneumonia shot in the left arm, shingrx (#1) in the right arm.

I've never had any reaction to any shots before, but I've never had three at one time either. Watching carefully to see how I feel in the morning!

Well, I spoke too soon. I can't even remember the last time I slept so badly. Probably got about two hours all night, so I'm a wreck today. Since the only thing out of the ordinary was getting pumped full of vaccines yesterday, I have to think that was the cause. I feel fine otherwise, but man will I sleep tonight!

Had my annual physical today. All my blood numbers are in spec, all functions are normal and still no prescriptions. I'm happy.

Finally put off avoiding the inevitable and went for an MRI on my knee.

As the tech was getting me ready she asked if I wanted headphones to put on during the scan. I told sure, but that I'd probably fall asleep anyway. She laughed and said 'I don't think so. This machine is pretty loud'.

When she was done, she woke me up and said 'I can't believe you slept through that!'

Paid property tax bills. If you think it’s easy, it’s not, I had to overcome a lot of inertia, especially on a down day like today.

At 07:40 a.m. took the 1 Euro bus* from Perpignan to Villefranche-de-Conflent in the foothills of the Pyrenees.

(*51 km each way, and 1 Euro p.p. each way.)

The covered/tunnel stairway, (in the region of 1,000 steps), wasn't yet open when we arrived, (we took it back down), so we took the exterior steps/trail combo up.

Using a tablet so won't waste 16 hours trying to get the pic vertical

Nice surprise at Kroger. Pork shoulders and ribs were on sale at $1.79 plus the ribs were BOGO. Saved about $50 and have a freezer full of goodies.

Another miserable day below freezing so spent the day inside. I ran wire from the basement up inside an interior wall to add another plug in the master bedroom, did laundry, and gave my girlfriend another lesson on lifting weights...she's previously only done mostly isolated exercises on machines and I'm introducing her to compound exercises with free weights.

Here you go - - what a picturesque place to explore!

Thank you! I won't put you in the position of having to write a manual to explain how you did it! ;

You're very welcome! There really isn't anything to explain; I have some very old photo editing software that I have always used for this. It is no longer available, but you could also rotate it in Microsoft Paint or using any one of a number of different methods.

Oddly, it was in the correct orientation when we uploaded it, and DW saw it correctly on her tablet......mine, naaaah.

(I'm a desktop kinda guy....dislike fiddly tablets.)

Not exactly today, but in various stages over the last 22 months, I have been one of the people (perhaps, in terms of hours put in, the main person) responsible for this, which you may have read about.

Interesting. You investigated him?

Interesting. You investigated him?

Some colleagues and I made the initial discoveries the first irregularities in his papers, then I and another colleague dug deeper and found all kinds of other problems, including duplicate publication, lying about methods, and (very probably) data fraud. The actual investigation was done by Cornell. We're trying to get a copy of the report, although it's probably pretty embarrassing for them, so we're not holding our breath.

I am shocked that he did not even keep his data. Every researcher knows that if you can't produce your original data then your research is worthless. Or so I was taught in grad school.

OK, so the above is another man who will be retiring early.

As for us, my wife booked for us early appointment at the dentist at 9AM today for tooth cleaning. Then, we ran our weekly grocery errand.

I got some beef bones, to kick up my daily onion soup up a notch tomorrow. It takes a lot of onion soup to use up the 40-lb box of onion that we got. Good thing I like onion soup enough to eat it every day for lunch.

Today? I got up at the crack of dawn and went surfing. Beautiful glassy warm water. Only me and a couple of other old geezers out there.

Then I worked in the garden for a couple hours with my wife. Planted 10 new pineapples and prepped another bed for cabbage, basil, lettuce, broc, and egg plant.

Then I took a nap.

Then I finished a NYT crossword puzzle.

Pretty much the same every day.

Took the 06:35 a.m. 1 Euro bus to Céret to see the Saturday market: wandered around as the vendors were setting up and after they opened, then walked to the Pont du Diable, a stone bridge built in 1321.

My sister just left. She spent a week up here. We sewed new window awnings for the motor home. After 33 years or so, the old ones were falling apart. We had to do a lot of work to get the sewing machine to work, Mainly a little oil and retensioning the thread for heavier thread did the trick. We also moved the new wood shed into place and then cut, split, and stacked firewood. Also spent a lot of time chatting. It was a good week.

I now have to get ready for a heavy snow forecast for tonight and tomorrow with a low below 10 degrees. Winter is here early this year.

We always like the weekend markets in Southern France. The locals do go there to buy food and merchandise, not just gawking tourists like us.

I looked up Céret. Happened to see the town of Mirepoix. Hey, what do you know! Is that the birthplace of the culinary mirepoix, or is the town named after it?

Will you have time to visit Andorra, or have you been there already?
