I have not found a replacement for Hostess fruit pies yet.
recall the taste changing for the worse around the time trans fats were vilified and removed.
I think Bimbo purchased them (could be wrong) who's the largest bakery company in the world.
Per Google.............
Your sense of smell and taste change as you age. Between the ages of 40 and 50, the number of taste buds decreases, and the rest begin to shrink, losing mass vital to their operation. After age 60, you may begin to lose the ability to distinguish the taste of sweet, salty, sour, and bitter foods.
I don't eat those items often but recall the taste changing for the worse around the time trans fats were villified and removed.

We still have recipes for meals we made often when we were first married. We didn't have much money, so we made a lot of stuff with hamburger, boxed macaroni dinners, etc. Occasionally we'll make one of those meals again for sentimental reasons and are amazed how unappetizing they taste now. I guess we have a more sophisticated palate in our old age.
I recall those pink snowballs. A guy a Megacorp had peeled the cake out and let the coconut and icing gook dry out. He kept it on his desk for years, the damn thing really didn't change! Yum..I have never had a Hostess product .I grew up with tasty cake treats but I have not had one in years .I just am not crazy about dessert especially desserts that have a shelf life of infinity & beyond .
Ironically, I think the Hostess products seem more "artificial" now. I can't really describe it, there's just a weird texture and bland flavor.
[emoji41]There used to be a readily available product that made Hostess snack cakes and the like taste a lot better back in the day. I think it's available in Colorado, and California, and....

It has to be the trans fat. They had the dual benefit of being super stable with long shelf life, and having a great mouth feel to them. The new Oreo icing doesn't melt away like the old. Has to be the fat.
Now back to the low carb thread.
FWIW, since I try to eat lower and slow carb, when I do eat something sugary, I want it to taste very good and be worth the withdrawals from my 'Well Done' account. Most processed foods don't make the grade.
