College Football

Time will tell on this. At UNC it helps that dorms are closed to most students and classes are online and the football players are in a "bubble." But we shall see. The big controversy from yesterday's game is that the NC governor would not let the player's families attend (except for 25 parents of senior football players). NC only allows 50 people to attend outside events and the county where UNC is located has reduced that number to 25.

So many different rules around the country. I was watching a Champions Tour event yesterday and they allowed 5k spectors in to view the golf. This is in South Dakota with low covid rates. And a few football games yesterday had several thousand fans scattered throughout the stadiums. Not allowing families at the NC game seems silly.

Watched Clemson v. Wake last night. Pretty much just a shake the cobwebs off game, and once again Trevor Lawrence playing three quarters. A lot of true freshmen starting in that game for Clemson on the Offensive and Defensive lines. Should be another good year for them. Glad to see some movement toward normalcy, and that's all I'll say about that.

Yeah, the US is about 4% of the world’s population and we have 21% of the Covid deaths. So we should ease up on large gatherings since we’re doing so well, after all watching football in person is essential. Especially with a significant segment of the population not wearing masks or social distancing in public. Who cares how long the infections and deaths go on.

Any chance we can keep this thread from being infected by COVID?

I am an LSU (SEC) fan so waiting for them to start, but I did watch some of the Clemson/Wake Forest game last night. Interesting that the Rajun Cajans beat Iowa State. Much prefer college football vs NFL.

Trevor should have left early if he was eligible for the NFL. Playing in these uncertain times and risk of getting injured can ruin his future.

Please stay away from this kind of conversation. Would like to be able to have a college football thread stay open.

Trevor is not eligible for the draft until 2021 which is unfortunate for the rest of the ACC teams.

You stretched what I was saying quite a bit but not surprising.

Sounds like there is s good chance Big 10 football will start on October 17th. Go Hawks!

John, since Penn State is in the Big 10 they have to do what the Big 10 says to do. The Big 10 delayed football weeks ago. I just saw today that the Big 10 will be announcing a decision about football in the next 72 hours. If the Big 10 decides to play I would think a new shortened schedule for each team will be announced. There is a lot of info about all this on the Penn State Football message board (google that and it will take you to it). I hope that the Big 10 teams get to play and that all the teams stay safe and get in a season.

Harllee, thanks for the directions to the Penn State Football message board. I'm going to check it out! I wasn't getting any useful info from my own googling. "WE ARE..."

Tom, that would be great for all the Big 10 teams, where are you hearing this?

Coach Greg S of Rutgers is back. They've fallen on hard times but second time back rehired with better recruiting classes could bring back the winning seasons when Coach was there the first fime.

Most every D1 school has sports message boards or sometimes they are called forums. Some of the info on these boards are junk but usually you can find the latest news and it is fun to exchange ideas with other fans (but watch out for trolls). My school has message boards on all the sports--basketball, football, baseball, women's basketball, olympic sports, a wealth of information, a lot of recruiting info. Usually you have to register in order to post but often you can read what's been posted without registering.

It's official Big 10 football begins October 23 with an eight game season plus conference championship game. Go Hawks! Go Big 10! I like all the teams, except when they play the Hawks.

LSU's Coach O to be on Sixty Minutes this Sunday.

Kinda silly how they did a quick reversal after new 'rapid testing' was available. I think they saw how football was working for most (with some cancellations) and were getting a lot of heat from their constituency.

Sad that he got chastised by his own athletic director for being 'too honest' when he said that most of his players already had the virus. This is the world we're in now.

My team, UNC Chapel Hill, was suppose to have a game with an instate non conference team (UNC Charlotte) this Saturday but the game has now been cancelled by UNC Charlotte. UNC Charlotte announced that 3 of their football players have test positive and their entire offensive line is now in quarantine.

Under the ACC rules UNC Chapel Hill can have one non conference game this year but only with an in state school. So now UNC Chapel Hill is scrambling to find another in state non conference opponent for later in the season (too late for this Saturday).

Back in the spring Woodward was a proponent of secrecy with respect to Covid. Here is what Woodward said, I took it to be as much of a compliment vs criticism. I have a lot of respect for Orgeron, and the AD is a big improvement over his predecessor.

”The beauty of this is that Coach O is totally transparent and honest to a fault, and it’s a great thing,” Woodward said. “This is very similar to what we’re seeing across all schools that have been doing this.”

…Woodward cited two student privacy protections, HIPAA and FERPA, in explaining why the LSU athletic department doesn’t provide specific numbers, as other college football programs such as Clemson, Notre Dame and Texas have. He also said a running total of COVID-19 positive case numbers “doesn’t tell the whole story.”

I'm a Michigan football fan and this news is disappointing. It means that we likely lose for a 9th straight time to Ohio State and end up 1-15 dating back to 2004.

With rare exception, it hasn't been a rivalry game for almost 2 decades.

Just saw on the news that Florida State's football coach has tested positive and that he is now in isolation and the assistant coach is taking over. Florida State does not have a game today but I wonder what this means for all the Florida State players and Georgia Tech who they played last Saturday.
