We cleaned up debris from Zeta blowing through here early this AM. Nothing big, just lots of branches. The heavy winds were a bit alarming. Our house in the midst of a mixed hardwoods forest, but the big trees within range of the house generally are pointed the right way (CG leaning away from the house).

While we have received heavy rains from tropical storms/hurricanes several times in the past, this is the first time a gulf coast storm got this far inland with such strong winds. We are 350+ miles from the gulf!

Temperatures have been about 60F for many weeks. They dipped a few days ago but are back again. Reaffirms my belief that this is one of the best places in the world.

Now I am curious! Have you made it known where the City of the Subdued Excitement is? Please? :flowers:

The other R/C airplane that I'd ordered arrived, the V1200 that is designed to do one thing very well; go fast. In level flight it'll go 140 mph out of the box. This is definitely not a beginner's airplane! It is also not an airplane that I'll be flying in the back yard, I'll have to go to much more wide open spaces. I think I have it mostly set up but I can't check because I also ordered a new-fangled "smart battery" that communicates with the control transmitter via telemetry and since the battery didn't have enough charge to safely fly, it won't allow me to do anything except bind the radio to the airplane. I need to buy an adapter for the different charge connector it uses, already ordered.

But it'll be a neat airplane when I finish getting the setup done, with flaps and retractable landing gear. Not sure when I'll be able to fly it, much depends on weather at this point.

Played for one of the last times on my pool table. I've finally accepted that it's rarely used and taking up too much valuable space. I've taken some pics and will post it to sell :'(

Worked out the gym in the morning. DW and I went bowling at noon. Sparse attendance so easy to social distance and masks required at all time. We then stood in the rain from Zeta for 90 minutes to vote. Evening plans are to putter around in the Home Computing Center and play with hardware/software while Thursday Night Football plays in the nearby man cave.

I couldn't wait any longer. Called my podiatrist and scheduled bunion, etc surgery. Toe is hurting on hikes and standing. ok while sitting. Today's hike was rough.

Made a grocery run this morning, scoring two large size packages of Charmin megarolls. Also got some candy for Trick or Treaters although I seriously doubt many, if any, will show up. DW is a bit irritated because my instructions were to "not get any candy that I like". But she likes all of them!

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to suffer and choke down all that chocolate by myself if no kids show up.

Frank took me to the ophthalmologist for my annual diabetic eye check. I still feel slightly nervous about going to a doctor during the pandemic so I was glad to get that done (safely), and get out of there. The good news is that all is well and my eyes are doing fine.

That's enough work for the day! :ROFLMAO: I took a nap afterwards and plan to do little or nothing for the rest of the day.

Woo-hoo! I ordered a package of 18 megarolls of Northern (my preferred brand) from Target a couple of days ago. They will be delivered on Tuesday. I never order from Target but I want to find out if they can actually get toilet paper to me, after my difficulties with Amazon third party TP vendors. Also Target has the paper bowls that I like and Amazon has been out of them for weeks, so I ordered some of them, and some peanut butter (because, why not). I know, I know, I'm "betraying" Amazon after being their best customer for years. Just gotta try the competition. I was going to go and shop in person this week, but the hurricane messed up that plan.

OW!!!!! I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. Best of luck and hopefully pain free hikes ahead for you.

90 minutes standing in torrential rain? I am definitely impressed with your dedication to voting. I probably would have done the same, to tell you the truth.

Aw, KEEP IT! You sound so sad, and what's space for, anyway but to keep items which we value and want to have around (even if rarely used).

Went to Walmart to get groceries and DW's monthly load of prescriptions. Washed the car as it got up to about 70 F out and clear as a bell. Turned off the sprinklers for the rest of the year. Busy day!

Went to the Zoo and spent 4 hours in amazement at what a beautiful place it has become. A few days ago I decided to get an annual pass. They limit the number of visitors by requiring advanced admission and there is social distancing with most visitors wearing masks. Since we arrived as it opened we were very comfortable walking around early with few people around. We were always at least 10 feet from anyone and most of the time enjoying a peaceful time by ourselves with the animals. Since we are annual members now we can get admission as often as we like. Other than hiking in the woods this is the only place to be outside of home that we feel comfortable and safe. Looks like we may be going often since they have many secluded places to picnic.

Cheers!

Got a new Kinetico water softener for the house and reverse osmosis filter in the kitchen Thursday. The difference is unbelievable! I wish I hadn't waited so long.

Finished majority of Christmas shopping online--Target and Amazon.
I am preferring Target much more than Amazon, never have any trouble getting what I order and usually within a few days.

Got jet skis and ski boat winterized, batteries hauled up to store over the winter. Fishing boat is on the charger, supposed to be mid 60’s and sunny all week so that’ll get used for quite a while yet this year.

Mowed the front & side yards, DW set up to put a bowl of candy out on a table in front of the garage door later on.

Sneaking off for one last camping trip here in the PNW. Dry weather is predicted with highs in mid 60's. The campgrounds seem to be empty on weekdays.

We found out that a favorite restaurant of ours is already back open again after Hurricane Zeta, and not even that busy! Simply amazing, given the way things were here yesterday. So anyway, we ate lunch out as always. Split a roast chicken wrap, yum.

Then we drove around our immediate neighborhood and gawked at the huge trees that are down. The chain saws and wood chippers are going like crazy all over town, but it's still going to take a while for all of the streets to open back up. That said, homeowners are cleaning up and bagging debris for pick-up on Monday, and then mowing and edging and sweeping so in general our suburb looks pleasingly neat and tidy. "Pride of ownership" and all that.

The utility company has put up new electrical/phone poles to replace the ones that were blown down, and moved the wires to the new poles. Most of the old poles have been removed or at least they are not out in the street any more. I found a fairly large piece of F's soffit in my yard, so he is going to have to get that repaired sometime. No rush, I would imagine. I also found some shingles but they are just the standard grey color so who knows where they came from.

Tonight Frank will be able to work at his "fun job" for only the third time since the pandemic. The bar around the corner from us that he sometimes works at, is having an outside Hallowe'en show on the bar's patio (since inside shows aren't allowed due to the pandemic). He will be doing the sound and lights for it. He has repaired some/most/all? of the damage to the sound and light systems caused by the storm.

Meanwhile, I plan to stay home with the lights out and not answer the door. Even if we get trick-or-treaters, in the past they have never knocked if I do that.

In the old days, unless Halloween was on a weekend, I would get home from work right when the trick or treating was going strong. I would often be in a suit. I just said that I was dressed as a lawyer and that was scary enough.

Oh good! I hope my experience with Target is as good as yours because Amazon just has not been "up to speed" for me since the pandemic. So far, so good. On Thursday night I created a Target account and placed my first ever Target order (TP and a couple of other items). It was supposed to be delivered on Election Day which I thought was impressively prompt. Now they say the package is coming by FedEx tomorrow! If it does, and if it has the right items in it, then I am officially very impressed. :)

Changed the screens out for storm windows. (Although we decided to leave a few strategic screens in for possible anti-Coronavirus ventilation this winter.) Swapped out the summer tires for snow tires. Took the convertible out for a last, long ride before putting it to bed for the winter. Cooked some Chilkoot Sockeye salmon for dinner!

We sold our rental townhouse today.

I posted elsewhere that we had plans to fix up the bathrooms before listing the house, but out real estate agent advised against it and suggested we paint, clean, and list.

It was listed Wednesday at 3:30 pm. In the listing was a statement that we would review all offers received by Sunday at 3 pm. There were 27 showings from Wednesday thru today. We received six offers, the lowest equalled our asking price and the highest asking price plus 5%. Crazy!

The terms were a little better for the second-highest bid, so we went with that. It was only $1000 lower than the highest bid but with an earlier settlement date.

Took my 2005 Mustang convertible out for a long drive in absolutely beautiful Fall weather here in Texas (75 F, low humidity, clear sky).

Today I followed Walt34's lead and got my first dental cleaning/checkup since the pandemic.

The good news: no new cavities!

The bad news: a crown is wiggling and could soon fall off a previously root-canaled tooth. The tooth is now badly split, and if the crown falls completely off I could swallow it (eek!). But if the dentist tries to get it off, the split tooth might split more and become harder to extract. So, tomorrow I have an appointment with the oral surgeon to have the tooth (and crown) removed. The oral surgeon is the same one who did my terrific dental implants. But this tooth is the farthest one back, and I hardly use it at all, so I decided not to pay for an implant this time.

What's next in 2020? :ROFLMAO: I have no idea. It's been just one thing after another. :ermm:

Don't worry, they'll sanitize before they reinstall it.

But seriously, sorry for your dental woes.
