How much coffee do you drink?

None. Never had any desire to drink coffee. I like how it smells, though.

Like some others here, I can drink coffee later in the day and not have trouble sleeping. Apparently, there's a gene for that.

https://www.livescience.com/62772-caffeine-sensitivity.html

Specifically, caffeine sensitivity depends partly on a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which is coded by the CYP1A2 gene. The enzyme is responsible for "inactivating 95 percent of all ingested caffeine," the report said. In other words, this liver enzyme breaks down caffeine in the body.

Like others, I've never had a cup of coffee my entire life. People are flabbergasted when I tell them this haha

I drink two mugs worth of coffee from my mini Mr Coffee machine. Counting their 6 oz cups, it counts as 4, but it fills two 12 oz coffee mugs which I drink every morning. I have no taste for coffee at any other time of the day.

That's exactly what I have and do.

Two 12 oz cups, black and usually done by 8:30am. I rarely have coffee any other time but early morning.
I did read once about a cup of coffee just before a nap. It starts to kick in as you wake up and does have a nice energetic kick.

2 cups regular coffee in the morning. 2 to 5 cups decaf later in the day.
Regular coffee has never affected my sleep, but I switch to decaf only because I've read that too much caffeine can be unhealthy.

I don’t think it’s unhealthy for most people provided that it doesn’t cause the jitters or manic behavior. Caffeine appears to help the elderly.

DH, however, has to avoid it. Even in small amounts he will develop heart beat irregularities. Not life threatening but definitely comfortable.

Single espresso when I get up. I make DW a cappuccino. Up until a trip to Italy 2 years ago I didn’t drink coffee or any caffeine at all. I had espresso there and decided I liked it enough to get a grinder and machine.

2-3 mugs each morning. I am done by 11; after that and it would disturb my sleep.

0, which always made me a social outcast at work. Can’t stand the smell of the stuff.

I was always amazed at a couple of coworkers who literally were total non- functioning zombies until they got their morning dose.

As a fellow coffee teetotaler, I am often reminded of this funny song from the show/movie "How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."

Back in the 1970s, my mom was in a local theater group's production of this show, and she was among the people who were in this number, so we heard her practicing the song all the time at home.

Zero. Tried it once in college, and was unable to hold down anything else for a couple of days. Since that experience, tried it a couple of times and still got a queasy feeling. Have not touched it for 30+ years.

None. Never have had coffee, not even a sip. Drank too much soda though. Quit that. I prefer chocolate milk. No caffeine and i get some vitamins and minerals.

2 large mugs of dark, thick, black coffee in the morning! Mmm... good.

One espresso after lunch usually. And 3 cups of tea (breakfast, afternoon, and before bed).

Started drinking coffee in my 40's, only one Starbucks a month when we had these large mega work meetings on the third wednesday--lol.

Now I have 1-2 large mugs half decaf every morning. We like trying beans from various roasters around town and brew at home, add cream and a dollop of whip cream!

Brew a 42 ounce pot every morning as soon as we get up. Both of us drink strong dark roast black coffee with nothing in it.
Sometimes we'll even make another pot or half pot.
We switch to tea by afternoon and will do a couple of 10 oz. cups of that as well. Never have trouble sleeping.:)

Half a pot of half-caffeinated half-decaf per day, mostly in the morning. I refrigerate the other half and finish it the next day.

My first cup was at breakfast in Moscow in 1978, after 36 hours of travel from San Francisco, touring NYC all day, then flying through Warsaw to Moscow, all with 4 hours sleep. It was black, sweetened, and the bottom 1/4 of the cup was sediment. It was awful but I needed it.

I drank no more coffee until medical school, and then it fueled my crazy hours for the rest of my career. I needed to sweeten or add creamer until about 4 years ago. Now never sweet, occasional cream as a treat.

I can fall asleep over a cup of coffee.

Interesting. This sent me down a fun rabbit hole learning about this gene.

Turns out I am have the "normal metabolizer" variant of this gene. Other folks are slow metabolizers and are more affected by caffeine.

One more fun thing to look up in your DNA report...

That is interesting.

I have an interesting quirk... when I am home I can't consume caffeine after about 1 in the afternoon and still sleep at night.

But, when I am in "vacation mode", for instance when I'm in Italy or France, I have an espresso after dinner nearly every night and sleep just fine.

It's probably a blend of genetic/psychosomatic influences.

I have the slow metabolizer gene and I don't tolerate caffeine at all. When I had my DNA tested it was nice to find a reason why it affects me so much.

2 to 4 cups in the morning, none after.

Or how much wine you drink with dinner in Europe?

One cup a day in the morning when I wake up. It is actually a laxative and helps you go.

Never had a sip in my life. I needed one vice I could say that about.

Don't ask about Diet Pepsi.
