Deepest condolences for your father, Cindy Blue. But how wonderful that you were finally able to be with him and read his beloved poetry to him at the last. That was a gift for both of you. And he may not have known you were there then, but I believe he knows now.

My condolences to you Cindy Blue. I am sure he was a good man.

I'm so sorry, Cindy!

Alan I wish the best for your family!

My dad is in a nursing home and I haven't seen him since last summer. It is rough.

Thank you, everyone. And my heart goes out to all here and everywhere who have lost loved ones...

So sorry Cindy. So glad you got to be with him. He knew you were there. I am sure he could feel it.

My dad passed away today, complications of covid. He was 89. It was a good thing for him, really...it's just that it's so hard on the rest of us...sigh...

I am sorry Cindy, I will keep you in my prayers as you grieve for your loss.

My deepest condolences to each and every one who has lost a loved one to this horrible virus.

Such a scary time right now - racing to vaccinate the most vulnerable as an apparently more contagious variant probably means bigger breakouts in nursing homes.

My sincere condolences, Cindy. May memories of happier times with him be a blessing to you.

Sorry for your loss, Cindy...

Alan what is the latest on your sister and her DH, I hope that news is good..

Thanks for asking.

My sister who lives near me has been back at work 2 weeks now, as has her husband, and she texted me yesterday morning to say this is the first time she has woken up with no backache so considers herself now fully recovered. Her immediate symptoms on day 1 had been a terrible backache caused by inflammation of the lungs so she had been sleeping propped up with pillows to ease the pain. Her husband has also been back at work for 2 weeks and is also fully recovered - I talked with him on Saturday.

The sister who lives 35 miles away went back to work today so I will check in with her tonight to see how the first day back went, but yesterday she said she was feeling loads better. Her husband is also well on the way to recovery.

Great.... of the 4, I was really sweating the DH with the serious health issues...it good to know he made it through OK.

Well just heard my cousin working in HC in the UK has a positive COVID test. She had her first Covid vaccination (I don't know which type) about 10 days ago.

She got put into isolation for 10 days, I don't know if she will get retested sooner. Wondering if it's a false positive. So far feels good just bothered by having to quarantine . From what Alan posted they are running tests on all NHS workers.

Hope your cousin continues to do well. I wonder if there is any evidence that having one shot of the vaccine reduces the severity of the virus? I hope so!

Sorry to hear that. I hope she doesn’t get too sick. I would expect she got the Pfizer vaccine if she was working in a hospital as that is what hospitals have been administering since they have better deep freeze facilities. The AZ vaccine is better suited to local GPs and community vaccine centres.

Don’t know about Pfizer but I recall hearing that in the AZ phase III trials that at least 2 folks caught Covid within 10 days of the vaccine as it takes a few weeks for the anti bodies to kick in.

The other day the news here said that 100,000 NHS workers are off sick or isolating. The latest figures from the ONS on their random mass testing is that 1 in 8 folks in England have, or have had, Covid.

It will be disappointing if folks start testing positive 3 weeks or more after getting the vaccine as that would indicate they are asymptomatic carriers.
